time to build a new PC...

I figured I'd ask here to get a head start on things, since I'm sure there are lots of computer experts here... it's time to ditch my 4 year old PC and build a new one, since my CPU appears to be malfunctioning. I've been out of the whole "PC building" thing since before dual cores came out.

What's today's big deal, quad cores? What CPU and motherboard combo would you recommend? How about RAM (specifically, what brand and type)? I usually try to build something that will last me 4-5 years. I'm all set with choosing a video card and all of the other stuff. I do a heavy amount of graphics and video editing work, and play a game or two when I get time - I'd hope for the system to be all ready for when GTA 4 comes out for the PC.

    Thanks :)
