    Hello Everyone!!!

While giving seo proposal to someone how much time should we mention for a site to rank in Google, Yahoo and MSN for competitive keyword like web site design or custom web site design or real estate??

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on were you plan on ranking them, are you talking first page ranking or page 50? It is really dangerous trying to give a time frame. What I do is tell them that they should start to see changes in about 2 to 3 weeks, but this does mean that I will have them on the first page in that amount of time, it just means that the site should have moved somewhere in the rankings by then. Most clients will understand this.

I stay away from making promises even when I know it is a keyword that is going to fairly easy to rank for. It is much safer that way.

i got a bodybuilding to rank number 1 in google for the term bodybuilding chat in about a month.

but saying that it is not a very searched term. popular terms take alot longer to achive the results.

also domains with the terms you are trying to target get better results to.

my domain was ranked with pr3 on the second month, the other one was w/o any rank for 5 months then got pr4. it all depends on your content and links to your site.

    It's also 101 days old.

I think the OP was referring to SERP's rankings...not PR.

It depends on the keyword, and a lot of other factors too. I made it to #1 for one keyword phrase in less than a few weeks.

Yes, it makes no difference anyway since PR is meaningless.
I agree with you, OP refers to SERP rank. This is the deal...

Thank you all for your precious suggestions and comments. Please also let me know what is the single most important factor to rank in all search engines. I've read that various anchor text (containing your important keyword in it) from different IP addresses is the single most important factor in ranking in search engines. Example is when you search "Click Here" in Google without quotes Adobe Page is returned. When you look for click here keyword on adobe's page which is ranking it is no where to be found.

    What do you people think.

Don't make promises. SEO is like public relations, you cannot guaranteed anything and the client should know this. That said, some terms take as long as 6 months, but only if they are highly competitive.

To rank well for the competative keywords you are stating, I would say around 6 months minimun using white hat seo.

If the keyword is very competitive you should analyze other possible keywords (similar, but not too competitive) to start and then change to your initial one.
