Using a couple pieces of software (IAW Pro & Whitesmoke) I can turn out a very good article in 30 minutes. I read a lot about people writing 500 word articles in 15-20 minutes. For the life of me I can't figure out how that's possible.
@raycer43: Sorry to veer a bit off-topic, but are you satisfied with "Whitesmoke"? I have tried it for a week and found that it did not even catch fragmented sentences that were trapped by "MS Word" It takes me anything between 30-90 minutes to write a 300 words article depending upon the complexity of the article and how much I have to research for it. Then there are clients who put up odd requests like putting the `keyphrase' once in the first line, once more anywhere else in the first 4 lines, once in the middle of the article and once in the last line. This type of specific placements murders the flow of writing.
Definitely its depends on your topic and your mood. You must have an idea about the topic. If you are producing great content on a daily basis, it may be that you are a creative person… But try increasing the volume. It may take time. Its usually takes up to 1 or 2 hour.If you are an expert on a particular subject then you can write 300 words in about 20 or 30 minutes.
Pretty much around 1 hour. I normally don't post it up right after I finish writing it. I'll put it a side for few minutes then come back to read through it. Sometimes the topic that I wrote swift away. It's better to take some time to check back what we wrote.
@kumo: this is a good idea since we tend to write in a rush. Later on when we review our own text, we observe that it can be improved
For quality article, 1 hour is acceptable time to write a 300 words article. You can do less than that if you practice a lot.
Half hour, tops. Organization is key. If you have a typical intro including an opener like "If you want to learn about___ then you will want to read this article." Then introduce your 3 main points. Each paragraph is then a main point with a few sub points. The conclusion is a recap. This shouldn't take you less than a half hour.
Nice... THANK U ALL for the info! I am already practicing a few tips mentioned... will try to implement more of the tips shared here. Cheers!
Wow. That must be some quality stuff you're churning out. Are you including research time and proofreading time?
I am the queen of the usable first draft, so if I know the topic I can write 300 words in about 15 minutes. But, if I need to research or the words won't flow because it is new territory for me, then it can take an hour or so.
I guess it depends on whether the article needs a lot of research or minor research.. sometimes it can take a long time to finish even a 200-word article.
Hello Celestial, I find the time varies depending on how much information you have to work with and whether you can find a nice angle. What is amazing me on this forum is that some people are prepared to write for so little money, or others are only prepared to pay pennies, when so much time and thought is put in. Surely we writers are worth more?!
Hey, I am also a content writer and I would take one hour for such an article. I think if you try a little you can reduce half an hour from the time you are taking at present…
Wow 1.5 hours for 300 words! What is your system to write articles? For me it takes 20-30 minutes to write a very good 300-400 word article and that's with everything research, writing and editing (and I take my time). One tip that's helped me a lot is to use voice to text software, I can't tell you how much it will speed up for article writing and I tend to have better quality articles since I started using it.
20-30 mins? What voice to text software do you use? I have dragon naturally speaking but my mic isn't good for it.
300 words with all the info available would take me 20mins tops. Everybody is different...but yeah. An hour and a half does seem excessive, all things considered.
500 words takes about an hour and half, including research. It has taken me longer if the topic was really difficult, like economics or math topics.
