Time it take to rank

I've recently focused on a new keyword (it isn't a very popular keyword) for my website. I have bought links with that anchor text and I've optimised my site to rank well for that keyword. It has now been about 3 weeks and I'm still not in the top 50 for that keyword. I want to know, how long I have got to wait for the search engines to rank me for that keyword.

    Thanks

Have you set up any useful back links to your site?

I saw someone helped a man to move from #350 to #9 in two days. Like suggested, it's about how strong backlinks you use. And if it is any usefull content on your site.

What type of site? Directory maybe?

I launched a web-site on 12th of september 2007, and 24 hours later I'm in google for a couple of targetted keywords, in top10. For other keywords in top 30-50. That's in 24 hours, with 1 backlink from a PR 4 site and some other minor stuff :)

Just create a good content using your targeted keywords and use your keywords as anchor text in your link building. Try to get lots of quality links from relevant site.

I would give it the full 6 weeks before you panic and i would also start looking for a few quality backlinks like mentioned above. My site was ranked pretty quickly when I launched for a few local terms that I targeted, but I did start with 1 backlink from a PR3 page.

My cache on google says that the last snapshot it took of my page was over a month ago. Is this why it has not been ranking very well?

you must wait search engines to recognise your backlinks.

they need time to do that

Run an "allin" search for your website using MacDar Datacenters tool. Check 100 at a time. Can you find yourself in each column? Are you high in one but not another?
If you are ranking high for allin "anchor" "title" "text" and "url" you will rank highly overall. Analyze where your deficiencies lay, and add your keyword as appropriate. All of these can be improved, except URL.
Also, if you have not been cached for six weeks, that's not normal. Submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster tools and see if you have crawl errors.
