Time delay between click and registering in adsense account?

Does anyone know how long it takes before clicks show up in an adsense account? I don't think it is instant. Do google explain the matter anywhere or do you know if anything about this has been covered in a different thread on DP?

Not always. Some days I have to wait up to 12 hours before I can see any clicks.

I reckon it depends on all sorts of criteria - but with respect - I was hoping someone actually knew how it worked - anyone can have a stab at it and that's not helpful

They have to verify the clicks. Make sure you're not cheating.
