ok, so say you have a decient site, you update min twice a week with unique content, how long and how much $(directory submisions, link purchasing, ect), to have a reliable 1000 uniques a day? again this is starting from scratch with a site not indexed on any engine.

Theres a lot of factors involved. What kind of site is it? Is it porno? Is it about bark on a tree? Every site attracts a different type of audience and traffic.

Your question is like if I open up a store and advertise when will I make money.

Like they already said, it depends on a LOT of things such as the topic of your site, and how well you do things.
As an example: my first site was getting over 1,000 uniques per day after about a few months
My second site is 8 months old, and barely gets 100/day

On my first site, I spent many hours per day, every day, for months promoting, building content, getting links, etc..
On my second site, i was too busy working on my first site to do all those things, and the result was barly 100/day ...

The answer to your question: "It depends"..

You should measure it by sales, opt-ins.. not by visitors..

I would try to look at your conversions. Since Google was nice enough to buy Urchin 5 I would use the free version of Google analytics on your site and see where traffic is going and how you can improve your conversions.

Ultimately who cares if you have visitors if they don't convert.
