yes I am a fan, I would love to go to one of his events but they sell out soooooooo fast, he has only been to australia a few times

I have his cd magika or something I love it..+ I have a few of his tracks...I have been a fan for a few years now...

 

Yeah I was fortunate to hear him play at a NYE a few years back here in Sydney. Don't remember much of it though

 

Reason:
So music has mutiple facets to it.

Old progressive bands like Can, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, et al,... they attempted to blend the musical languages together (even creating new ones). Many progressives rock bands put together jazz, classical, metal, electronic, and new age....making a fairly unique sound. Now-a-days there's no limit. Rap and rock are starting to really take to the idea of blending.

Genre's are cool, but people that act progressive make the new styles up.

People speak about Rock in the 50's leading to the rock of the 60's, but the truth of the matter is that what happened was an incredible revolution in music. So many different styles evolved from the rather simple blues music that started the whole thing.

The foundation of many DJ's and hip-hop itself could be linked to experimentation into electronic sounds/beats by prog...atleast that's how I see it. The creators of hip-hop were in my view 'progressively-minded'...

Well, that's my depth on the subject...sort of.

By the way, is there any big beat DJ's out there, with guitar rifts in the background. I'm looking for something like that.

 

You can still create a unique sound whilst maintaining genres. So many new musical genres have been formed which are just off shoots of another.

Tiesto is awesome although to be honest I haven't listened to much of him lately, time to get back into it

Infected Mushroom is pretty cool too if you're into GOA trance.

 

One of my favourites too. Got many of his records and remixed on vinyl, I love playing his stuff banging out loud on decks and then his DVD on the screen pretending the crowd on it is mine

I've got a signed record by him and been to many of his gigs. One of his biggest fans and have been since before he became famous with Flight 634.

Armin is very good... not something I would go and listen to at a party though too chilled out.

Gig-wise, I actually preferred it back in Holland to be honest. When I was 16-20 in Holland there was nothing but Trance, Hard-Trance, Tech-Trance, Hardcore, Mellow etc. etc. Here in the UK it's much more Drum 'n Bass, Brit Pop, Breakbeat and other weird stuff. Obviously depends on your taste but at the time, Holland was far far better for Trance and mass raves.

Record = 12" Vinyl I forgot the title and don't have it handy now to check it. It was at the time he did his In Search of Sunrise series and first did his 8 hour live sets 'Tiesto on Tour'. The gig was on a Friday night and I was on vodka red bull all night, needing to be reasonably fit for a 10am footy match. I rode my bicycle home at like 8am, straight on the pitch for the match Loved those party days.

Speaking of Above & Beyond, didn't Thijs have a hand in that too? Voyage (I have on vinyl) was such a wicked song, still gives me goose bumps, especially its intro.

Funny shit dude.. yeah they were the days I couldn't have imagined having to go and play footy afterwards though, I was too buggered to even head straight to work. I used to work in the electrical department of some department store, worked out well cause the tunes would go straight back on.

 

Probably a good thing. I hear it can become an expensive habit
