Thunderbird is an email client released by Mozilla the same foundation that is behind the Firefox web browser. Mozilla Thunderbird is also one of the most popular email clients on the web and is used by many users of Firefox. Mozilla Thunderbird essentially functions in a manner similar to Outlook, the native email client prer-installed in Windows OS’s.

Thunderbird basically synchronises itself with your email account(s). it can manage multiple email accounts. What happens is that Thunderbird downloads email from email accounts, creates local copies and can then be used to view the email offline. This is useful in creating a backup and in create an archive of email.

Thunderbird has various advantages over other email clients. It is free (and open source). It is also multi-platform and multi-lingual. And most of all, it allows a person to customize it with add-ons in much the same way as Firefox add-ons work. Indeed, the User Interface of Thunderbird shares several similarities with Firefox.

Here is a list of some useful and important Thunderbird add-ons that are a must have for the compulsive emailer.

Additionally, it can also be used as a reminder for the person himself (by adding the email address in the CC field).

I'm using thunderbird at the moment and I'm gonna try these add-ons. The best is the world clock add-on as I am working for a company in a different timezone.
