Has anyone had any experience with generating thumbnails of webpages like Alexa does? I would assume theres a script or tutorial out there somewhere but I can't seem to find it.
If all you need is a few you can do a screen shot by clicking alt printscreen, inserting the image so obtained in something like paint shop with just a control v and resampling at whatevere width you desire. Ask Shawn where he gets his screen shots. There is a web from which you can get them. Good luck. Shannon
http://www.girafa.com/ is excellent service if you don't mind paying for thumbnails But if u want to code it yourself, you can utilize this class: http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/918.html hope this helped
The Girafa service is great and it is FREE is well if you need to show less than 2000 images a day. I use their service and it is perfect. They also have excellent support. Check out their free service at the "sign up " page.
I added this to one of my sites (below) and it works,(read the Alexa terms before using). All thumbshots thanks to Alexa.com <img src=\"http://pthumbnails.alexa.com/image_server.cgi?id=www.yoursite.com&siz=small&url=http://www.site_of_thumbnail.com\"/> Or if you just need a few like "Smyrl" suggested then you could use this site http://snugtech.com/en/safaritest/ Just enter the site you need a thumbnail of and it prints one out, then save that image to a folder.
