I'm working on a site and have downloaded an image from the old version (not mine). When I open the image it looks like it does everywhere on the site but just now I noticed that the thumbnail that displays in the left of the file explorer box in Windows XP, is showing more 'image' than I knew existed. It's a mid-shot of a person and until now, as far as I was concerned the shot shows the person from the top of their head to mid-waist. However, the thumbnail shows right down beneath their feet (they're standing) and way above their head. It's as though the file contains some sort of message to say 'display only this area' when viewed, which Windows thumbnails are ignoring. I've opened the file in PS CS4 and it displays exactly as it does on the site - as a mid-shot - and I can't see any options/settings that might reveal the whole picture. Can anyone explain what's going on? Jon
I've got a vague idea that some applications may not update the thumbnail image after editing... so if you open an image, crop it, then save it ... then the thumbnail may remain 'uncropped'. What kind of image is it? Is it a PSD? Upload the file somewhere if you can.
Hi Kerosene, what you suggest sounds very likely and what I had in mind. Unfortunately, I can't (or rather am unwilling) to upload the image itself as the site is an online lingerie store and the image would be inappropriate for a public board. The image appears to be a standard .jpg.
Well if it's a JPG, then there's next to no chance of getting the full resolution "missing legs" back. I've tried to rescue corrupted PSDs by using the thumbnail, and it's no fun at all. I'm guessing that the original source is either unknown, or can't be contacted?
