So I started working on a site, and I got everything going just right but one little problem...WHen I make a news post(blog post whatever) The Thumbnail will not show up. Instead I get a little black box with some text in it(post title I believe well part of it) and when I right click and click view image I get this on a blank page remote host "cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com" not allowed Any idea what this mean and how do I fix it? Thank You. Thank you.
Yeah I can see that the thumbnail is not being generated or rather its showing a broken picture and a black border around it. I have written a post here about a solution which you can try: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1898076#post14749432 There are many great ways to generate thumbnails, the post above shows a more advanced way but it is fairly straightforward to implement.
Well then alternatively would there be a different skin that you would recommended that would show just headlines in groups like "Wrestling News" "results" etc..? Or is there a mod or something for that? I really don't feel like coding haha thanks for all your help bro.
The image isn't showing up because you're hotlinking it from someone else's site. Upload it to your own site instead, quite apart from technical troubles it's frowned upon (putting it mildly) to use other people's bandwidth to show images on your site. Most themes that have image resizing will use the same timthumb script, so you're going to have the same issue even if you switch theme. Host images yourself!
^ Calm down all I did was use the feature that wordpress had came with... I didn't break no laws willingly... I'm not perfect now.
I know, I should have put a after that last bit. That's why it's not working anyway, timthumb won't resize anything on an external URL. ...
ha cool thanx for all your help on a side note is there a way i can do headlines like in categories minus the except and thumbnail?? thanx for all your support
I'm not sure how your theme is setup but if it includes a category.php or archive.php then this is the template it's using to create the layout for your category page. All you'd need to do is dive in there and take out everything you don't want. If neither of those files is in there it's probably just using the same template as the homepage, index.php, in which case you can copy the index.php, rename it archive.php, and then dive in and take out everything you don't want
As long as you don't go into it thinking "omg I'll never do this, I'm gonna break it!" and check that everything is still working after every change you make, you'll be fine. Make a copy of the file you're changing, if you like, then if it all goes horribly wrong you can just put it back how it was. Most of the WP tags are self-explanatory anyway like the_content() or the_title() so you can see what does what. To take out the images just search for "timthumb.php" and you should find an img tag to remove.
Thank You... Can I do this from within Word Press or do I need to use cpanel? Sorry for all the questions I've never customized something that I didn't make lol.
No worries You can edit them in WP through appearance > editor, or possibly through your cpanel but to be honest I've never tried that. I do most of my stuff through FTP but if you don't know how to do that, stick to the Wordpress editor. Good luck!
