three letter .name? Are they worth anything?

I've been looking to get involved in the domain business and I found a few different names that I've considered purchasing. I was just wondering if a three letter .name are worth anything?

    Thanks!

.names are worthless unless it's a real name. or something like last.name, first.name, my.name, your.name etc. blah blah might worth some bucks.

    why would .name be useless?

any marketing/sales/business guy looking to brand himself (who's .com is already taken) can just use .name and some good SEO.

I think a few years in the future a lot of respectable people will snag up their .name

When was the last time you saw a .name appear in a search engine? When was the last time you even VISITED a .name site? For me, the answer is both never. I have a .name with something like 5mil OVT (weirdal.name) and it didnt sell for $5 on ebay. O well.

Firstly, most three letter domains are taken.

Second, you cannot register NAME or WS domains shorter than 4 characters, as per default restriction on these extensions.

BTW, my best ranked site is a NAME domain with over 1 million searches in return.

Will be pm'ing you in brief because I can't disclose it publicly ;)

Restrictions are posted somewhere at www.nic.name and www.nic.ws and it arise every time your try to registrar whatever domain shorter thar 4 characters disregar the registrar service you try.

All .names must be firstname.lastname.com (must have 2 periods)
So...you cannot register lastname.com or mbl.name but could register my.mbl.name. and then your email would be ..and someone else could register someoneelse.mbl.name and have email of

So that makes them pretty worthless as a domain name or for branding.

edit: from chuckd1356's link above and http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/name/registry-agmt-appg-8aug03.htm it appears that you can register lastname.com as a 'defensive registration' but it will cost $6000 and must be registered for 10 years.
