Cool, I even received a negative reputation point for my decision. Whoever you are, you could at least have enough courage and dignity to identify yourself. Just to be clear why I decided the way I did:

    1) I'm a service provider and as explained numerous times before a service can't be held responsible for what his members do. I have a TOS clearly stating that the ones who post are taking all the responsibility.

    2) I operate anonymously. My name, address, phone number are not accessible via my website, nor whois data. Even if my info was to be found out (probably illegaly), websites like ripoffreport, complaintsboard, my3cents have not lost a single case. Why? Because rule nr.1 is protecting us. I'm expecting lots of more similar cases as my site grows larger. I received threats before, but not as serious as this. It's also important to note that I receive many many more thank you emails then threats, so I must be doing something right.

    3) We're in different countries. But even if the company would take it that far to make an international case out of this, the law for service providers is shielding me. If not, imagine if I hacked a bank with my IP, but the one who's responsible would be my internet service provider? I could take offline half of the nation with a single act like that.

I'll update if there's anything new. I haven't received a reply yet, anyhow I did investigate them a little and their business certainly looks shady.

I would just remove the post since it was written by a guest and all that.
It is not worth the headache seriously.

if you have any back links into that, just redict them to omepage or something
    Story finished.

    :)

or youcan remove name of company by editing the post eh?

I didn't leave the negative rep, just so you know. Anyway, with regards to Ripoff Report, you may not be aware that that website has settled a number of cases outside of court. Then there are the documented claims of extortion...

Well it's an opinion isn't it? So I would like to know how anyone would go about proving an opinion."the food was bad" etc. is opinion. Someone else may think it's great. Have you posted the general idea of the post?

If it is something that actually is harmful to someone you should take it down. But if they are just getting bad reviews they should just deal with it for poor service.

Review sites and the problems associated with them are a common and growing issue.

Medical review sites have been under fire a lot over the past years by the medical profession on grounds that the claims of anonymous reviewers cannot be verified or even challenged. But despite this, some review sites persist successfully and without being subject to (so far) legal actions.

The key seems to be in how the reviews are collected and published. Some sites conduct themselves under the "innocent dissemination" defence. Much like search engines don't generally get attacked for making links with descriptive details available to destinations which are undesireable to some, review sites which refrain from "editing" submissions are less likely to be targeted than those which actually shape the editorial spin of their collection of commentaries. Once the site becomes a (contributing) editor to the "offensive" comments, they are on the same hook as the writer.

Some blanket accept/reject policies (no profanity, no spiteful/hateful comments, no commenting on other commenters), while they do push the site further into the gray zone, they seem be staying in business.

What many people seem to forget is that the perception of the written commentary is ultimately what shapes the potential positive or negative impact towards the subject.

If someone posts a blatent rant, most people who are seriously, and intelligently looking for feedback to aid them in evaluating a prospective vendor/service provider, will see the rant for what it is. Even if someone has been around the block only once, they understand the "he said/she said" factor and will be keeping that in mind as they form their opinions.

Even accounts of alleged facts have to be taken with a grain of salt in the absence of notarized/investigated statements. Both readers and businesses being "reviewed" understand this.

Reviews are very important and in this day where mainstream media (advertising) is virtually inaccessible to the average "working person" sites which allow crowds to congregate and share the soap box are better than total silence (something many larger businesses would prefer).
