Didn't see one around, saw it was a popular thread last year on Reddit and thought it's on topic. Here's what I found so far: $0.98 Black Friday/Cyber Monday at Namecheap The promotion runs 12:01am to 11:59pm EST Friday Nov. 28, 2014 and 12:01am to 11:59pm EST Monday Dec. 1, 2014.
I wanted to chime in on that Namecheap promotion. I was able to successfully acquire domains in the promotion in 2012 and 2013. Last year, Namecheap did different promotions every hour with a notice about which promotion was coming next. They used their Facebook page to update the promotion status. You are limited to one domain per account per day. So you can get one on Friday and another one on Monday. But you have to work fast because the second the promotion starts, the Namecheap server slows to a crawl. You to have your credit card information already input and have the domain in your cart ready to go. When the coupon code is released (I do not recall if it was released in advance or not) and the promotion starts, you have to enter it in and the very second the promotion becomes active, you have to click to pay. The web server slows to a crawl. It can take 7 minutes or longer from the time you click to pay to when you get confirmation that the domain was registered. So you are going to sit there for several minutes waiting for the registration to occur. If you get a message that the domain could not be registered, it will be too late as all the allotted domains will have been taken. They did the domain name thing a few times per day with a few hundred available each time. If you miss the time, they will do the domain promotion again in a few hours (as they did last year). The best time to guarantee you get a domain is when it is nighttime in the USA. So when it is early morning in the USA on Black Friday, that is your best bet. By Monday word of the promotion has gotten out and more people will be trying to get it. I will not be trying for a domain this year. In each of the past 2 years, I ended up allowing most (except for one) to expire. While it did not cost much, staying awake all night waiting in front of the computer to save $9 may not be worth it.
Namecheap servers are overloaded with requests, takes 3-5 mins to load the page and before you enter any coupon code, its gone.
I mentioned that above. I don't know what they are doing this year, but last year Namecheap made the announcements of the deals on their Facebook page and then had a "coming next" so you would know which promotion was next. The domain deals were running every 3 - 4 hours or so last year, for 1 hour each time. But the number of domain registrations they offered at that price was limited so they were usually gone within 15 minutes. But none of it matters if you cannot access the website. Namecheap's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Namecheap They don't seem to be announcing their promotions there this year. They are announcing on their own page: https://www.namecheap.com/campaigns/2014/bf-cm-deals.aspx If you look it has the current deal and the next three deals listed. They are going to do $0.98 domain registrations again in a few hours. Have everything ready to go before the deal starts or the website will be too slow. And there are legit 90% off and 75% off deals on web hosting. So if you want another account to have another IP address to link to your other sites, this would be a good time to do it dirt cheap.
Instead of $0.98 for new domain offer, namecheap displaying domain transfer offer. Just wasted my time.
That is because you missed the deal. Something like 350 domains were made available for $0.98. When those ran out, the backup deal of the $5.98 transfer took its place. You have to act fast. You have to have everything ready to go before the deal starts. The Namecheap site slows down the second the promo starts. It may not be worth the hassle to get the cheap domain. It's only $9 savings. In the past 2 years I registered domains, but I am not going to bother this year. It is not worth it to me. But if you want to save a few bucks, have some time on your hands, and are looking for a challenge, you can get a domain for $0.98 + $0.18 fee. What are you looking for? I think 75% or 90% off on web hosting is a heck of a deal. Deals all over today and Monday.
I thought they are running every offer for an hour, as previous deal of 'shared web hosting' stick for an hour even though coupons were sold out. And of course I was ready , but the page never loaded in time. Anyway, I grabbed web hosting offer right now, page is still being processed, 5 min passed.
They run the domain registration offers until they run out. Which can be in as little as 15 minutes. You have to have everything added to your cart and the second the coupon code is revealed, you have to add it and checkout. (I was able to get 3 domains myself and have a friend get one for me in 2012 and 2 and 2 in 2013.) That Namecheap hosting offer is crazy cheap ($0.98 for a year). That's 90% off. I am going to assume they are relying on people to stick around for the rebill at $38.88. It's cool to see you can choose which data center you want, U.S. or U.K. That is a nice feature.
