Thousands of Direct visits, 00:01 time on site, 99% bounce rate - why?

My website gets thousands of visits a day, even though I only have two inbound links. All of these visits log for 1 second total time on the site, with a 99% bounce rate. Anyone know an explanation for this? Is it crawlers? Spam?

You may have your site attractive and SEO friendly but not with good content to make visitor stick to your contents for some minutes.

your site must stink I made a client a website and he has a bounce rate of less than 3% which is almost unheard of but if you make a good design with compelling content the sky is the limit

Direct visits? Then people are entering your URL expecting to find something else.

Care to share the site with us?

I suppose you should work out the content first because such a low bounce rate is proving the lack of interesting stuff that could make accidental visitors to linger

I have seen this before when a site has more that 1 analytics code installed - check that you only have 1 on the site.

I get this same thing in my analytics too, very very frustrating. Have you found a solution to this issue? Try filtering your IP address. Go to whatismyip.com and get your IP address and filter yourself from your reports.

Excessively submitting same url more than once in social booking and other spam stuffs brings this kind of traffic .

I do think that because the content adv or backlink that you bring it, You content may not make as your promise or not what they want. That why they will bounce out. Second is the traffic you bring in is in unrelated website topic and different line. If you do need to lower down your pages, you may need to restructure content. Show only what they need. Use some blog, article, media, flash animation to make them stay longer around your website.

Your visitors are totally seeing something they did not want to see...First erase all your google analytics codes and then also be sure you dont have adwords code in there also...As mentioned above .2 different tracking codes can mess things up fast..

THEN! you will enter new code, you need to find out where they are coming from,Possibly set up a tracking code of your own that will tell you also where your visitors came from exactly(url)..prior to landing on your page, facebook , ask.com etc..not a difficult task...

Once you find where traffic is coming from,Maybe you make a temporary forward of your domain to another page suitable for your visitors...this traffic will not last long..There must be an article or advertisement with link to a site probably one letter off from your domain..Just a Peon

I am a bit confused here, the OP has just posted something foolish with just one post under his belt. He has not even come back to reply most of the comments he received here. Well it must be the wrong style of viral marketing which might be getting good traffic but doesnot stay longer on the site. The only reason can be that the virals which he is spreading around for his site is not what is there on the site. Therefore when users land up on the page, they just wanna leave or go to some other search :)
