With the internet steady rising as the main communication tool do you think it's a good idea to dot com your first and last name before somebody else registers it. I see it as I MIGHT need it in the future so I'll register mine now just in case. I'm thinking the main reason for doing this would be for resumes and work related stuff. I know alot of freelancers are already doing this. But what other applications could dot com'ing your name benefit from? Should the average Joe Schmoe do this? Thoughts?
You've got nothing to lose except the reg fee and you know if you don't reg it that someone else'll come along and take it, so yes, do it now. I reg'ed mine a few years ago and not regretted it. It's just got a few basic things on it, nothing too complicated. And of course, you can use it as an e-mail address as well.
Some people are actually checking if domain names are available BEFORE naming their kids. I was going to write a mini-blog post about this. I think it's important to own your name.
If your name is available, for $7/year, it's a good idea to get the .com if you want. LOL...now that's funny.
