I think the human sacrifice to appease a deity, the idea that your sins can some how be absolved by the torture to death of someone else, is the most unhealthy and distasteful aspect of christianity. It's called scapegoating. Take some damn responsibility for yourself for once.

Would you teach your children that their responsibility and guilt can be removed if they can find someone to be punished on their behalf? When you think about it, it's an utterly repulsive idea.

So thanks for the offer, but i'm going to have to refuse it. I find it disgusting, want no part of it and, had i been there, would have tried to stop it.

The funny thing about the pascals wager argument is that it always assumes that if a god does exist the person making the argument has picked the right god to believe in. So when you think about it, your "odds" are not better, are they. In fact, the "odds" of you being right are greatly smaller by virtue of the fact that thousands of gods have been invented.

There's no point into arguing with you about it, at least not with the spider. Wildlife serves their purpose well in the world for both Atheist and Christianity.

    by St0k
You are not suppose to understand or/and agree with it. You are an Atheist. According to the bible and real testimonies that exist today Christians are not off the hook. They still pay the same responsibilities as everyone else in the world. Don't worry about it.

No I wouldn't. It is repulsive.

What you are refusing is something that you have not read properly and don't understand. Its not like the way you are saying here. You don't understand and are making up a whole new religion to turn against. I can't teach you to understand it correctly. Your thoughts are shut. If I showed you God and He was right in front of your face and you were able to see His power in all greatness you still wouldn't accept it.

I have only used the pascals wager arguement that you saw for the benefit for you. That isn't my real reason. I've got more than you can imagine, its just impossible for you to see.
Let it go and walk away with Atheism.

Yeah because they live in civilised countries with laws. Their religion teaches them that it is possible to not only remove the punishment for a wrongdoing but the guilt it's self by having a human being tortured to death in their place. Whether that is true and whether they actually do get away with anything is irrelevant, it's still a disgusting thing to think is true. it's still disgusting to think that the murder of someone else can possibly absolve you of not only your punishments and consequences but the guilt it's self.

Phew! Convenient how you just remembered these unspecific secret real reasons just about the time that i point out how and why pascals wager is a complete pile of bollocks isn't it.

since we are born we are bound by our senses, senses that at the end always bring an assessment to us about everything, good/bad sad/happy delicious/junk beauty/ugly pain/pleasure etc..
Do you know why Buddha recluse under the trees? to release those senses.. our human senses limit us to know the existence of God (we can't even see the air, the important thing for our life).

no but we can sense the air, we can feel the air, we can see the effects of air, we can hear the air, and in doing so we there's no doubt whether or not we are sensing air, or another element, we know, that it is air.

With God, it could be him, or it could be something else, truth is no one really KNOWS. Which is why religion relies so much on faith. Which is why religion relies so much on faith. Blind, deaf, mute, faith..

You are really misrepresenting the idea of atonement. Christians didn't kill Jesus, anti Christians did. According to most christian beliefs, Jesus was not just any man. Jesus was God in the flesh. He came in the form of man, to suffer the punishment, that people deserved.

You can show god to people?

When have you seen his power and greatness?

You think if a god existed he meddles in our affairs?

Where was your god that you channel during the holocaust?

Must have been busy showing off his power to a nonbeliever somewhere else..

One may believe or note. God is there in different forms and organising different matters in this world. He never waits for recognition and certification of his presence and power from the socalled wise people who does not believe him.

Its not like that at all. You got it all wrong. Your making up a new religion with these statements and blaming Christianity like we believe what you are saying. No one gets off of any hook at all.

    by Ncz_nate:
Well, not show like for viewing purposes. It an an example. I'm sure you'll understand what I meant eventually. I was not saying I'm going to show anyone God. It was an example to indicated to someone that if they had proof that God existed they still wouldn't accept it.

At least 400 times in my life. Of course you'd have to be there to know.

No, more like assists, guides, supports, helps, carries, and teaches.

Its not my God. Its God. The holocaust? So you are saying it is Gods' responsibility to make sure that bad stuff doesn't happen. The world is not sinless. What you are asking is for heaven on earth which is not possible anymore. But since you blame God because of the holocaust, do you praise God because of the invention of Halls. Hey, they help me get through sickness every year.
Nope, you blame God because of the bad only. God is not responsible for the people who made the choice to hit that button. It was people that did that.

God doesn't get busy, nor show off his power, nor makes personal attacks at nonbelievers. You are talking about the Gov't I think.

No it's more like, I know a god doesn't intervene so I don't have to shy away from the realities of history.

Did I say I blame god? No, reality only helps support my conclusion that one doesn't exist.

Ah, so much for your prayer, I'm sure that'll get you real far when a f*cking nuke is getting dropped on your city. Does god have a plan for everyone? Well, just not if you're about to walk into a Nazi gas chamber for instance.. or if you're living in Hiroshima August 6th, 1945.. or if you're one of the hundreds of thousands that recently died tragically in Haiti.

I'm sure they all weren't praying hard enough; they deserved it didn't they?

Or was your god busy doing other things, like not existing?

I wish you'd stop using the word "your". "Your" God, "your" prayer. It sounds like your offended because I happen to believe something that you do not so you throw "your" in.

I don't have a "my" prayer because I didn't pray anything for myself so I don't get what you are saying here.

There is no point into clarifying what prayer is for to you because you don't know shit about Christianity. I suppose I could try but what's the point. You sound like a total idiot when you Obviously believe that the purpose of prayer is to get saftey away from death. For starters that is not what prayer is for and for a second point Christian people are SAVED after death so by them dying in an earthquake doesn't exactly mean that God screwed them over. Actually its not Gods responsibility whatsoever for when someone dies.

God does not have a plan for everyone. I know you asked but it looks like you already jumped to conclusions thinking the answer is yes. And then you babble on complaining about how people died in Hiroshima and this new Haiti. This is the world we live in. Bad things happen. God isn't going to make sure that the world is perfect for you and everyone else.

No, its not intentional, but yes it just so happens that some of the people in Haiti are the victims of the circumstances of the way the world turns. No, it has nothing to do with them not praying. You are horribly mistaken about Christianity. Someone has mislead you about what the faith is about. It has nothing to do with anything you are saying.

Go ahead and post back crying about some other bad thing where people died and then say that God doesn't exist because that happened.........

Really? Judging by how many times I've corrected you on its finer points, it seems I know a little more about than you do.

So then tell me what the point of prayer is.

The only thing you've been doing is saying that becuase of bad stuff that has happened in the world God doesn't exist. Its a horrible argument on the topic.

Why not. Its a little tough to explain to someone who doesn't believe but its kind of like Spiritual therapy. People are not supposed to only pray to get things made right that are wrong or to ask for help. The reason prayer exists is to give you a chance to have a greater relationship with God. Sure, people ask for help on the troubles in their life. Heck, God is willing to help if people are willing to open up and just ask, but its more of a relationship thing. It gives the Christian an inner peace and a better hold of their life(holy spirit stuff, you wouldn't be interested).

Not necessarily that "he" doesn't exist, just that "he" doesn't intervene. It's more of a point directed to the people either in this thread or another thread I saw that were saying "wouldn't you pray to god if you were in a crisis" and "there are no atheists in a sinking ship".

:D Ah I get it, it's a club only for the cool kids. No girls allowed! :D
