    I have been getting the same error. Used sitemaps with no issues for over a year and in the last few days they have been starting to generate that error.

    You may check the format of your sitemap. It exists lots of online service for this.

    One of them:
    www. smart-it-consulting .com /internet /google /submit-validate-sitemap /index.htm

    This is either a change or an error in google sitemaps itself not in our individual xml.
