I'm trying to release some freeware, but when customers go to install it, they get the "this publisher could not be verified" warning message before they are able to install it. How do I go about digitally signing the software so that users will not see that warning?
Does anyone have the answer to this? Is there some type of process wby which you can verify your software through microsoft?
I think you need to go through Verisign or another of the certificate companies. You could also try searching the Microsoft website and its MSDN forums. It looked to me like this was an Authenticode issue, which would make it a question of getting the right kinds of certificates to prove that you are the author of the software. I presume this thinking is that bad guys would not go through the signing process -- though good companies have been caught doing bad things on people's computers.
