I give thanks and gratitude to the Confederate soldiers who fought and died for their freedom in the face of tyranny. Even though their battle was lost, the war still rages on. Anyone else keeping the South in mind today?
I try to think about all of the fallen, military and civilian. But certainly the South, where the fallen marked the end of the right to secede.
Memorial Day had its origins in the Civil War. All over this country, communities gathered together to mourn the blood lost in this conflict. http://www.usmemorialday.org/backgrnd.html I think it is important to keep this in mind. Responsive to Nate's post, however one feels about the Civil War, mothers lost sons, wives lost husbands, children lost fathers and brothers and sisters lost brothers, across the Mason-Dixon line. There is ample grief for all, and ample need for healing. This is how I feel as well.
Thank you for posting this about Memorial Day. It is important for them to be noticed and it will be appreciated.
Nate, I recently watched this on the Civil War, it's by Tom DiLorenzo, and I thought you might like it. http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=204650-1 Click the flash or windows media icon on the menu to watch it.
Oh I saw a bit of that on CSPAN when I was at my friends house the day Bob Barr got elected. Thanks for the link, I'm gonna watch it all tonight.
