This makes sense towards AdSense eCPM

I guess you all know that half banner only has 1 ads and full banner has two.

Before I changed my website's theme, I used half banner. That time my eCPM was pretty high.

Now I am using a new theme with full banner, my eCPM dropped around 30-40%.

Logically, perhaps advertisers would bid more to try to get their ads on my site since if I am using half banner?

I remembered reading that reducing ads actually increases revenue. It might be true and logical.

If you use less adsense ads the highest paying ones should be shown

True, but it should reduce CTR, too, since fewer ads are being shown...less chance of a user clicking on the ads. It's a trade off. The key is finding the right balance.

It's weird... My eCPM dropped after I use full banner, as well as my CTR.

Will monitor for a few more days before i change back to half banner.

Hej Raymond, nice site. hehe, just kidding. Are you talking about the ad at the bottom or the ad in the middle ? I also think that you would make more profit when letting the ad unit on top float around the content.

You have not replied on my offer to bring you into contact with an advertiser who pays in Euro and who could almost generate as much income that you make from Adsense in that currency. Let me know please, you got my email. You can also pm me if you like.

Back to topic. This could actually have several reasons. Did you change channels when changing the banner format ? If you did I can give you a possible reason for this. Advertisers can book ads on channels and it could be that you lost those advertisers by using different channels.

The full banner looks more like an ad than the half-banner does. This could be another reason. I do not own an Adwords account but I suppose advertisers can book a certain ad format exclusively which could be the third reason. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

    Hey Martin, thanks LOL...

The top one is always the one that gets the most from adsense. As for middle and bottom, when I started to use half banner, I got better eCPM and also CTR. When I change my theme, I was able to place full banner and I thought it looked better. But who knows both CTR and eCPM dropped. Luckily my traffic increased and that balanced up.

Are you talking about Vibrant Media (IntelliTXT) that pays in Euro?

Yes I did change channel :( Anyone can confirm that advertisers can book ads on channels?

Finally, I've always wonder whether the ad unit on top float around the content will perform better than my current one? I need to try one day but there's a lot of editing to do because I need to use "align" code.

Raymond yes that is the advertiser I'm talking about. I can confirm that changing channels can have an impact on ad rates if you had advertisers who target that channel. You can check that in your Adsense account. Click on Adsense Setup > Channels. It should say Targetable YES if that could be the case for your channels.

Floating ads perform better on my blog and I think that we have similar sites. Worth trying for a day or two if you ask me. BTW my earnings took a huge drop when I changed the design as well (without changing ad units or position) and it took a month to reach the old levels.

You can also check that in Advanced Reports. There is a pulldown menu there saying Show data by. Select Individual Ad from that menu and check Show data by targeting type - contextual or placement. That ads a targeting column to the report which divides everything into contextual and targeted rows.

It should be as simple as putting a div tag around the ad code and adding a style="float:left;" to the div tag. That would allow the text to wrap around the ad, then.

Actually I am already using IntelliTXT.

But it numbers of ads showing, clicks, and revenue for IntelliTXT has been REALLY low for the past 3 days starting from January.

I get like less than a pound daily. Tried contacting them but no reply... Worst part is I've sent my invoice and my bank information to them, also no reply. Really frustrating because they do not reply my email to explain the situation.

I just remove one ad unit and earnings are growing. Next, I'll try just one half banner.

But you changed your site. now you have 3 big sqaures. What happened?
