In a nutshell, Paypal is threatening to close my account (with $500+ currently in it) BECAUSE one of my payees JOKINGLY put the word "porno" in the subject of the payment. What do I do? This is unbelievable.
that is ridicilious, try getting the payee to send paypal a letter as well referencing this incident.
Is the account now frozen or can you still access the money? If so, its needless to say that you should withdraw it all asap.
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/ua-outside I don't see why everyone is blaming this on Paypal. Joke or not you clearly violated their terms, this is like complaining that you got kicked out of a plane because you were joking about having a bomb in your pants.
Fryman, you might want to read my post again because you are obviously mistaken. My account SHOULD NOT BE CLOSED because someone other than myself (I don't think I can control people's minds, sorry to disappoint you) jokingly puts some word in a payment with no relation to the purpose of the payment. And yes everyone, I can withdraw the money, however I shall wait. So I can send a payment to one of you with the word "porn" in it and get your account frozen? That's pretty unfair, wouldn't you say, seeing as how you had no control over it.
That is exactly what I was wondering, and the most obvious answer would be no... isn't there something else in this story that you aren't telling us? I find it really hard to believe that they would cancel your account for this. Got the email they sent you?
I'm not leaving anything out of this story. I logged in today and got the message. Anyone can speculate and say I'm a bad or negative guy and side with Paypal (I'm not against Paypal, I just think they took hasty and thoughtless action, I do enjoy their payment service) but it doesn't matter because it's just that - a speculation. I may be oversensitive right now, but that's simply how I am. Here's the message they sent to me: And here is the *SUBJECT FIELD* of the payment that was sent to me, and is the cause of the dispute:
Well... it doesn;t really seem that bad, they are leaving the door wide open for you to explain that this was a joke and never said that your account IS cancelled. All you need to do is email them and explain what happened, so what really is the problem here?
I did send them an email. I am probably overreacting. Fryman, the problem here is that I am scared. There are just too many people saying similar misconceptions had occurred with them and their accounts were closed. I don't want to be another number that is looked down upon because of Paypal. What they did was indeed probably right - it was a suspicious payment. But the fact that I see a high probability that I WILL NOT GET over this dispute is what makes me so frustrated. Thanks! Julian
Don't worry, you didn;t do anything wrong so you should be ok. And glad you posted this, next time some stupid buddie of mine sends me a payment with "porn" in the subject I will send it back as soon as I get it!
NEWS EVERYONE: Issue resolved. Paypal admitted it was a mistake and my account is now back to normal.
In a way I am glad to hear they do filter for the AUP and allow time to resolve the issue. On a side note, for about a year I use to put "Happy 14th Birthday" in the memo field of the checks I wrote. Note sure why, just a running joke.
glad to hear you got your issue resolved, Paypal and Ebay are the biggest scammers out there :'( I sold something on ebay and got scammed out of my money and my object. Thus resulting in my ebay account be suspended until i pay paypal back for the money that the scammer reversed on his CC. So I pay them thier measly 48 bucks and it takes like 3 mos to get reinstated with paypal. So I email Ebay that wouldnt reinstate my account but still nothing. http://www.paypalsucks.com Thats ur link right now... If reading that site doesnt make you switch to something else than god help you
I have used paypal for over 2 years and moved thousands of dollars and couldn't be happier with them.
Yeah people like to jump the gun with paypal. The fact that porn was in the subject line most likely threw up a flag and the message was automatted. Paypal can take days or weeks to resolve an issue so I advise patience. Normally things turn out just fine if you give paypal a chance and don't start calling them screaming. Glad it's all good.
I would no longer trust paypay they screwed me over. I sold an item on ebay a few years back, and they locked up my account flagged it, and then I couldnt login.. Took about $1200 from 2 items i sold at $600 a piece.
