Definitely after Oct 1: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/new-toolbar-pageranks-visible/ (PR6) but before Nov 1: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/2006/11/ (PR0) Sooo.... although it can still change, if they decide for whatever reason that the date they are using now doesn't work, I would guess that it's sometime late Oct. In fact, Oct 15 post has PR5: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/email-is-the-bane-of-my-existence/ But Oct 17 has none: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/other-googlers-you-should-read/ That's a pretty narrow window. Does explain some stuff though. -Michael
I realize that PR is PR, and it's nice to see your site's real value. I know that just a snapshot (no actual update) but It's still nice to see your own site stats
That kind of agrees with what Ive been seeing. I'm a little earlier but I have nothing later to compare it to until early December, I'll go with your 11th of Nov unless I see anything that proves otherwise.
I guess some of the discepancies can be put down to not knowing when the page was initially cached - remember being spidered doesn't always equate to being cached. That can make all the difference when trying to pin down an exact date.
There are none so blind as those that cant see' you may LISTEN to him, but you don't UNDERSTAND him. Google call it a PR export because they have the live pr that is constantly updated by everflux. They then EXPORT that data outside the plex to the toolbar. So ALL Matt is saying is thatPR is being exported, but TOOLBAR PR is being UPDATED (brought up to a date in time close than it was previously). Matt has said this to clear up the fact that many people think toolbar PR is live when it is not. the only places to view live pr is the google directory and webmaster tools (Not sure if there is anyhwere else but I am sure someone will tell me ). Oh and no smart arse say 'at the Googleplex' Sorry Matt, but all you have done is played sematics. I think we should also change the name of SEO, because I have never optimised a search engine in my life. "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"
gees....I have seen PR changes on two of my sites now....and stil there are people believing that this is not a PR update.. ok ok this is not a PR update...its a biiiig strange thingie...we all got it. Ok! However, I dont really care for PR updates...all I care for IS serps....and since serps are reflected in the PR of a given page..therefore I do care lmao anyways, lets all repeat ....ready ? 1...2...3 This is not a pr update This is not a pr update This is not a pr update This is not a pr update pheew...I feel much better now. (the idea of this idiotic post is to show how I dont like the people which are making additional drama to the scene) PR update has taken place...and is still on. If you cant understand it, go to sitepoint! cheers, nik
I don't have an armchair man Have you read the whole thread though? He is not saying PR hasn't changed, he is saying we are using the wrong terminology and that it is not an UPDATE, it is pr being exported (what a load of shite eh! who cares what it is called, WE have always called it an update since the days it WOULD update). People in America ask for a 'Coke' when they really want some other drink right? we have trade names like Duck tape, like cellotape. Another great one is Xeroxing on an Olivetti? (am I making my point LOL)
Add Frigidaire to the Refrigerator. Whatever this is the Page Rank has changed it says on the tool bar page rank with green and it doesnt say export.
Like Matt said, it's not just a miss-use of terminology. A PR Update is significantly different form an export. This is one of the problem with the way information travels on the web, inaccurate data is as viral as good coherent information.
GREAT point MattUK, if I knew how to add rep I would give it .... Cache date is a good idea. I was thinking on the possible impact of trust rank on that snap shot date.
************************* Some corrections are needed. Before Bigdaddy was unrolled PR used to update (remember the famous dances). Since Bigdaddy we get a pr snapshot EXPORTED to the toolbar approx every 3 months. Which is why it would be great to focus on the date of the snapshot rather than the semantics. Words are importent. They define what is been communicated.
