he he he... that is top secret... I was just wondering if it had happened to someone else. I find it very strange to rank for a much more competitive keyword than the one you are actually targeting. But, to give a similar exmaple of my problem, it is just as if you are targeting the keyword "nose bleed" and end up well ranked for "bleed"
maybe topic sensetivy is coming into play here ... maybe the pages you are getting links from are more relevant to just "widgets" since it is the more general of the two terms. eg. looking at "nose bleed" ... "nose", well is just a nose, and thats that ... but "bleed" can be blood bleeding, print related bleed and pr bleed (if it even exisits) ... so it is possible that the links you are getting are more related to "bleed" then "nose bleed" and thus topic sensetivity. Or maybe another example of your keywords would help
