I'm trying to get my site up in a blog form, professional blog-form mind you. Not some gay @ss blogger.com stuff. So I wanted to go with wordpress, so I originally tried manually uploading it on my original host that I had for a while that sucks major @ss (startlogic) and ofcourse I know nothing in the area of FTP. So i see bluehost is apparently all about wordpress and it's just a "simple 1 click installation". Yeah it's really easy and simple, after paying $100 you do the real easy one click installation and it's not even an up to date version of Wordpress. "attention - upgrade to 2.3.3. for security reasons"

Oh great so I get to do it manually ANYHOW!

So i ask one of the doods at bluehost and he's saying to just wait until Fantastico updates it so i can do the real easy installation..

Well yeah I guess that is all nice and convenient being that I gotta have this site up in a couple of days.

    Anyone know wtf to do?

I'm about to stab someone in the heart really soon.

    Just wait the few days.

The critical updates go out quick. The more minor issues take a few days/weeks to make it through the system.

The control panel upgrades are a simple one click install when they become available.

Why did you pay $100? You should have paid someone to install everything for you instead. Its not exactly hard when you know what you are doing.

My hosting was running out anyway on my other one.

Also, I've tried to learn this dogsh!t in the past and I never understood it.

Should I set up my crap on another blogging site until they get their di#@s out of their hands?

I use to have to pay people to set them up, now with Fantastico I can create one in under a minute............and then spend 10 minutes uploading all of the good plug-ins. If you have fantastico I can take a look at it for you.

under fantastico you just select wordpress and click on new installation, note with mine the new installation is not highlighted, mouse over yours. Just click, enter the page name, your user name, password and you are set up---under one minute. When you stock up on plug-ins use the user guide and it will tell you where to ftp the plug-ins to.

I tried to download wordpress and ftp the whole thing with no luck, hostgator could not figure it out either (2 different people). My understanding is that to ftp the whole thing you need to set up a database and the other files go to your public html----don't quote me.

Thanks, but that's what I did. I have Wordpress all set up on the 2.3.2 version, but it says to update to .3 and that's where I'm stuck.

I would have to do it manually just to upgrade it. How do you do it?

Is there a problem staying at .2?

No issue, that is what I am using. All of my blogs are telling me to up-date, one of those rainy day projects.

I would definitely just stab someone as you have planned to do. Preferably an obnoxious neighbor or some bar shill.

Unless you have access to something like CPanel then you'll need to use an FTP.

they have to be ftp'ed to your plug-in file. Go shopping for a bunch of them and ftp them all at once. Save them on your computer in case you start another blog. If you use the adsense one my sure that part of the profit is not directed to someone else unless you like to donate.

Plugin folder, not plugin file. For small or starting blogs, an update to 2.3.3 is not necessary, but big and established ones should update since it has patches for security holes and bug fixes, lots of 2.3.2 blog being defaced just because they did not update.

The plugins folder is found inside the wp-content folder
