It's a good idea to buy links from sites:
    - related to your niche.
    - with few outbound links.
    - DoFollow links.
    - some traffic.
    - many indexed pages in Google and backlinks.

Sitewide or link on home page? Which is better?

Sitewide is better and costs more. Yahoo is particularly happy with sitewide links.
Make sure it's incontent link and not footer link. High PR.

Thanks for your advice! They are super zexy!!!

Ok, here is a strange thing (one that I have never noticed). A few days ago, my site got cached and I could see the latest content/articles I added and the date of cache was 7th May but now I am seeing old version cache of my site dated 4th May. Could anyone please explain what could be the meaning of this (if any)?

    Thank you:)

I am like you. I did everything the right way for the longest time...and even defended Google when they asked people to "pony up" and use nofollow and all that.

The problem is: Google is not doing their job yet. They SAY they can spot paid links. If they can...and they're counting them anyway, then I have no respect for them anymore...because you're right, the paid-link sites are doing better. If they can't tell...then we have no choice but to buy if we're going to compete.

I hate this like you do. But, for now, I buy links to try to compete. I hope Google can fix this situation someday. But I don't think that will happen with algorithms. I think they'll have to introduce a human element, and I don't know if they're willing. And humans are still corruptible.

If you can't beat em.. join em. Ok your scared to get penalised so reduce the risk.. buy links in the same places they have. At least if your caught you know they will be caught also :D

Providing your SEO is up to scratch, content etc.. etc.. then buy matching the link stretgy of your competition you should be out in front even if it does go south :D
