Given the high amount of knife attacks that happen it Britain every day it seems logical that some types of knife should be illegal. For example butterfly knives are illegal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_knife http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switchblade http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push_dagger etc. But doubler edged daggers are also illegal in the UK. So what the F*** is this doing on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-COM...5660940QQihZ018QQcategoryZ67584QQcmdZViewItem I appreciate that in law you are allowed to have one in your private home. BUT, firstly the postie is going to be carrying it around. Secondly, lets apply common sense, a high majority of these knives are getting sold to kids who are committing crimes. Notting
Knife possession is legislated differently in public places and in private. In private, you can own any type of knife except automatic knives (flick knives, butterfly knives, and switchblades). In general, knives carried in public places are legally considered to be offensive weapons and the carrier can be charged with "possession of an offensive weapon". It is however legal to carry a knife if there is a bona fide reason to do so for example, if it is a tool required for ones trade (e.g. chefs) or if it is part of a national costume (e.g. sgian dubh), or if it is carried for religious reasons (e.g. Sikh Kirpan). A special exception exists for penknives (pocket knives) which are legal without reason for possession, but they must be non-locking and sub 3". Any other article with a blade or point is illegal to possess in a public place, except with a reasonable excuse.[4]Even a folding pocket knife of less than 3" may still be considered an offensive weapon if carried or used for that purpose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife_law#UK Judging by this it is not illegal but it is crazy
Well, if it is legal, not much to do, I'm afraid. Much like here in the states - why anyone needs the host of firearms readily (and legally) available is beyond me. But it is the law of the land, at least for now.
