Has anyone experienced this. My site was on 3rd page day before yesterday, then came as first result (#1) for few hours yesterday and thrown back to its original position again later.

I am in fierce competition with other site to get top SERPs, but he seems to be winning (though my site has exact keyphrase.com)

Yea must be pretty thought if your site is the exact key phrase and your not in the top 10.
I have a website which is the exact key phrase 2 but i don't even show up for the keyword having 4k+ back link based on this tool:

exact keyphrase in domain name helps but not helps 'a lot' ... you need to work more harder on building quality backlinks. :)

You need more backlinks then they have and better ones to get listed before them.

From page 3 to page 1 and back is big swing back and forth.

Happens to me all the time. It's a shame because I get my hopes up and everything, thinking I'll be able to stay ranked first. :(

I second this. Rankings are 1% keyword in url, 20% optimized content, and the remainder consists of the backlinking portfolio. IMHO!

Don't forget that Google have more data centers, so your first request was served by some data center, second request by another data center.. That's the reason of different SERP imho :)

dshah, SEO is a long-term process, so don't get discouraged. :) It shows that Google is changing the ranking for that keyword, so you just might end up as number one in a couple of weeks. :)

If you haven't already done so. Go to their website and check it out. Work out what they are doing on there site as far as SEO is concerned. Then do a backlink check on them. Now once you know all that, out do them. You should be able to out SEO them once you know what they are doing.

    Good luck

Googe makes alot of changes time to time and expect to be thrown around in rank.

Keep building content, inner links and backlinks and you should be fine

Buy a domain for a long a term horizon on which you making your web site.

Say 5yrs or 10 yrs. This also helps in to improve SERP.

    Google also considers this.
