    We need some basic facts in order to comment on this. For the two pages of interest that are returned by the search (your page and the Google news story):

    1. what are the PR values reported by the Google toolbar?
    2. how many times do the keywords appear in the pages (content/headings/title)
    3. assuming the search term is more than one word, do the keywords always occur together?
    4. how many links are reported (e.g. by Yahoo) to the two pages

    You said above that the keyword appears twice in the news story page - so it does appear reasonably relevant to the query. Without knowing more there's no way to judge which page is actually more relevant.

    Thanks for the help. The comforting thing to know is that Google News articles don't rank well for long, until they come out with another similar story :rolleyes:
