This firefox tip isn't working, why?

    Hi,
I'm trying to use a common stylesheet on all websites I open in firefox using these instructions below.
    However, it's not working.
    http://brugbart.com/custom-style-sheets

I didn't have the "chrome" directory in my firefox installation, so I made it and placed a file userContent.css in it with the styles I want.
I'm using firefox 39.0 I think. That's the number in the "about firefiox".

Do I need to adjust some other settings too?
    Thanks

The proper term for this is user.css -- and really you shouldn't be trying to do it to ALL websites, but on a per site basis given how inconsistent people's markup is...

In FF, trying to even find where to put it is SO ridiculously inconsistent across different versions (the bastards can't seem to leave it's location alone) much less across different OS, I'd suggest just using an extension to manage it or you. Try using this, it's a bit easier to deal with:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/?src=external-userstyleshome

I've been using this one since the steaming pile of ChrOpera has forced me into trying to turn FF into what Opera USED to be back when it actually meant something... While waiting for Vivaldi to mature enough to be usable on a daily basis!

Firefox -- yeah, there's an add-on for that.

Stylish is a very good plugin for Firefox, and it have a lot of support (hence you might find something that fits your need, or at least something you can build on/modify, so you don't have to start from scratch). But as he said, doing this for ALL sites might be more pain than it's worth - I would go for a site-by-site solution (if I remember correctly, you can add the same stylesheet to several sites within Stylish) and forego modifying sites that doesn't need modifying.

Thanks! The stylish thing worked just fine. Although its not the same as it was in IE, but will do good.
Many thanks to both of you

    Here are the steps:
Download and install stylish on your PC or directly from firefox add-ons manager.
I downloaded it on PC, and then right click on the file and choose open with. Here select firefox, and the add-on manager is launched.
Choose install and the add-on is installed.

Now launch firefox and go to the site you wish to style.
Click the stylish icon in the toolbar. It's like a square box.
Click "Find styles for this website".
Click the name of the style you like and on the next page click "install with stylish".
    Click "install" in the prompt.
Now go to the site you applied the style to and ENJOY!

    Thanks :)
