I've heard of businesses going after sites using their name. I have a blog where I'll be discussing ways to use eBay, Craigslist and other auction and classified sites to promote your website. Being that I am not running an Auction or Classifieds site just talking about them I would think this would not come under any trade mark infringements. Anyone else have a different opinion? http://www.topebaytips.com
i dont think writing a review is a issue of trademark rather you are advertising them so they should be happy
During the years I have seen companies warning affs about their brands in domain names. A domain name is a property, and if you're using a third brand in it, you may be in trouble IMO. An offer to sell Ebay products is one thing, and I don't see problems here. But your domain is your brand, and if to build it you're using other people rights.... Just my idea about this matter.
If you are asking now, it says to me you know there is a possible problem. If the site is a big success and your income depends on it, you will be really concerned. Why not start with one you know doesn't have issues. Your idea is broader than Ebay anyhow...
If you're going to talk about ebay then the potential is there that they will come after you. The truth of the matter is that even if they don't come after you, your domain is going to be about a lot more than e-bay anyway but people won't know based on your domain name. I'd grab something more generic if I were you.
Not what I wanted to hear... I've already got a couple PR6 links pointing to it, these would be difficult to change. Guess I could move the site, 301 redirect over to the new domain and remove the redirect if they complain. The only advantage to that domain name is that it will help me rank higher in one of the subjects I will be working on. Thanks for the thoughts.
