We have disputed an invoice from our network administrator and have been unable to reach agreement with them on the issue. Because of the impasse, we've hired another company to help serve our needs and have explained the issue to them. They have attempted to contact our former network administrator to obtain the server password with no luck. My questions are 1) who owns our server admin password? 2) if our former network admin refuses to hand over the password, what is our recourse? It would appear to us that this refusal to turn over our password is against the law. We're most concerned with this group doing something that would compromise our data, or otherwise do something vindictive in some way, since they presently have access to our server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. - is there a proven method for a non-tech-savvy individual to recover an exchange server password without damaging the server or data on it?
I don't believe we knew it, although I can't be sure. We have tried several of our known passwords, which have not worked.
If you're network administrator is separate from your hosting company, you should just contact your hosting company to recover your root/admin password. If you're dispute is with the hosting company because you didn't pay the bill then your data is probably already gone.
dispute is with the administrator. to my knowledge, we host our own data (email, files, etc...), which may be backed up online somewhere. Network Solutions hosts our web domains and we have access to those accts.
