I am thinking of starting a spam directory on a PR domain that will accept any site except Porn,Gambling and other illegal sites?what dom you think?

I am willing to start this as other directory owners may get less spam if they redirect spam to my Directory

    I want your opinions?

I would like to see you do that. I wouldn't be surprised if your directory became dead after a few months either.

By the way, if you decide to go with phpld as a backend, there is this approval mod that approves listings right away. So you might not even bother wasting time on anything.

    no need for the MOD.

all he needs to do is change 2 settings in the php file and BAM! auto approvals upon submission.

Whether or not you actually CLAIM to be a "spam" directory, you will get spammed. But to create a site specifically for spam listings sounds dangerous. I just don't think Google, MSN, and Yahoo are going to give your site any love.

There isn't really any point to this. By making a "spam directory", you are basically stating "I am garbage".

You won't take care of SPAM for other sites, most spammers use autosubmitters that will just keep submitting to those same sites.

You are simply creating a FFA site. There are thousands of these already. And all are equally worthless.

There is no point to his unless it is part of a honey pot project covering directories, blogs and diggit style sites. There would be little or no impediment to submissions because the point is to create rules for an antispam project. Alternatively, easy to read captcha images could be used to auto-flag data from robot submitters. This has the benefit of making the site look real and create an inconvenience for whackos.

Such a project would be worthwhile and it is certainly something I have considered from time to time, if only to protect my own sites.

Not this, it's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Spam comes from automated submissions made by people hoping that a small percentage of directories will be set to auto-approve. By auto-approving you will be helping the spam sites gain links, and therefore adding to the problem.

The only thing that will block spam entirely is if no-one at all does what you are proposing, and everyone has good measures for blocking spam in their directories.

How will this help take spam out of other directories, in my view, you will encourage spam of other directories.. because no human is going to manually submit to your site, instead they will have one more use to send spam bots to directories.
