thinking about buying aaron walls SEO book, need some thoughts

Now, i don't want a load of people posting affiliate links and telling me how great it is.

I am self taught with the whole SEO think, I think I have done ok. There is noway I could get a job as an SEO but I don't think I have done bad for 12 months of self teaching (from here mainly!). I have got to the point though where i am running out of things to try. I have many good keywords lingering in top 50, top 20 also in all 3 search engines. MSN is much better than that but brings no traffic. I need to be getting closer to top 10 to see any major traffic increases but am having no luck.

Normally I wouldn't go near a ebook with a bargepole but i have heard a lot of good things about this, and hey, if he can rank 5th for SEO he must be good! What I need to hear is how good the book would be for someone like me. Someone who has quite some knowledge of SEO but is no master. Has anyone bought it, if so please tell me why you thought it was good and if you think its worth it. And, is the 90 day refund thingy genuine?

PLEASE no affiliate links, i want unbiased opinions!

    Ta!

You sound exactly like the position I was and still am in. I bought the ebook a few months ago to pick up those tips that you just can't seem to glean anywhere else. The book offers a lot more than I expected and covers from very basic things to some very good things I had not considered before.

I can't imagine anyone buying it and not picking up something from it. Many things I already knew, some things didn't particular interest me (non-seo material), but their were some nice gems I picked up and am currently trying.

He put a lot of effort into the ebook. Don't know about the refund. What I gained out of it was worth far more to me than a refund and looking forward to the next update.

hmmm, so you think its worth it then... have you seen much success with the new 'tips' you found in there? There isn't a 'use adwords to make money with adsense' type section is there? :)

Would you say it is reasonable to triple trafficin 90 days like is claimed? Also how often are the updates?

    Thanks

    Heh, no, nothing like that!

I really couln't say at this point. I bought the ebook, skimmed through it, then refocused on the areas I was interested in. Didn't really start doing anything with it until about two weeks ago when I redid one of my fav sites and really focused the keywords, page titles, descriptions and content. Not a good site to judge, as it's too new for google.

I've been updating my other sites this week using the tips. I suspect another month or so and I should start seeing overall results, hopefully.

how many pages is the book? I've thought about getting it, but I've bought other books (a copywriting one and another seo type book) and was disappointed by them more than naything else. Too much basic info without any real indepth stuff.

thats my problem, the sheer quantity of crappy overpriced ebooks available has branded ebooks in general a rip-off in my mind, even though i know there are likely to be very good ones worth every penny.

Is it generally considered that seobook is the best around then?

The most recent version I have is dated 10/18/2005. In Acrobat reader, it shows 232 pages total.

I'm in no way qualified to answer that! I have not bought any other ebooks before. I saw a previous thread here on DP, I believe, that motivated me to go ahead and buy it.

Seriously, the book is more than:

    Those onpage ranking factors
Get links ( and lots of them ) from different IPs right?

It gets into other stuff I presume?

Here's an exerpt from the table of contents:

    How to read this ebook
    Why Search?
    Brief History of the Web
    General Internet Topics
    *Writing for Search Engines
    Interactiving with Search Engines
    Pay Per click
    Monitoring Results
    Hiring a Search Engine Optimizer
    Selling SEO Services

These break down into subtopics for each.

By and far, the fourth Chapter (Writing for Search Engines), which covers keywords, meta tags, page title (wrong/right), internal linking, navigation, optimizing your page copy, building content, interactive elements and "some notes," was the most informative for me. This covers page 59 - 93 of the ebook, to give you an idea of how much content there is just on this subject.

    I bought a copy a while back.

Basically you can find all of its information in forums and websites on the internet. What the book does do is put everything together in one place, that is very well organized and well written.

Honestly, if you are new to SEO and are serious about it, I would say it is definitely worth it for time's sake. It covers just about everything a person would need to get a site ranking. You would save many hours compared to finding all of the information on your own. It would give you a good start right out of the gate.

If you are a veteran to SEO, there probably isn't going to be anything new in it. At least nothing of great importance. It may be worth it for the same reason of having everything in one place, but I wouldn't expect to learn any new groundbreaking information in it.
