Think Outside the Box

A lot of new webmasters are very limited in their plans on how to gain backlinks and I'm just posting this to remind everyone to think outside the box. If you find a unique way to get good merit based backlinks they'll be worth a lot more than the simple things that everyone is doing. Just be creative and see what you can do that your competitor's aren't doing.

I read all these posts here with people trying to get links the same old way and it just gets to me. If you need an example to see what I'm talking about check out my blog post about one other way to get great links by socializing with others who will want to build links for you. There's just so many ways to build links that people shouldn't limit themselves to the "traditional" ways.

I know what you mean. 99% of the stuff I read in this forum is from people spinning their wheels with spamming techniques that will at best get them nothing and at worst get their sites banned from search engines.

I had hoped to come to this forum to share ideas and learn from others, but I have quickly realized that I'm way ahead of the game. Some of the antics I see on this board are outright childish and idiotic, not to mention that they are lacking in honor and integrity. And, from my experience, having editorial integrity and treating others respectfully is absolutely mandatory if one is to succeed as a webmaster.

I am still convinced though that I have a lot to learn. For example, when I launched my tea site, RateTea.net, over a year ago, I knew nothing about web marketing. I suddenly was in the position of having a website and not knowing how to get the word out about it. Now, over a year later, I have a lot of data from google analytics, and I have a sense of what works and what doesn't. And I'm constantly thinking up new ideas, some of which are effective and some of which aren't. But it requires a great deal of creativity, and like you said, outside-the-box thinking.

I wish there was something that could be done to keep all the garbage out of this forum. This site is well-designed and seems to have a lot of potential but it seems to be a magnet for unscrupulous spammers and there doesn't seem to be an effective method to crack down on them.
