Okay, got a new router yesterday, spent time trying to get it working. Never did, taught the dog new words. Son-in-law came over, between the two of us, no luck at all. And this messing around trying to install the router screwed up my internet connection, etc so that it was a chore to get back on the net. Even then, the connection would disconnect. This morning, messed with the computer to try and get the dsl connection working right. Did not succeed. But did got through every help file ms has. So I was sitting here thinking about the problem and how to fix, when it hit me like a paddle side the head (those who canoe can relate). Now think faster than I did and do this anytime this or any thing bad happens to your computer. Use the system restore! All is well again with my computer and after Easter, will again visit the router and how to install correctly.
All my computer technical problems have been looked after by my office system administrator who is very good friend of mine. Whenever I suspect something wrong with system Iam taking CPU to office. Everything free of cost. I never go for experiments on my system (Including software instalations).
I bought a linksys WRT54g router and let me tell you that it was from that moment that I really understood how complicated wireless networks are. I used the cd and it worked fine but then trying to set up the WEP key it stopped working. Long story short, I had to send it back to them and I'm still waiting for the replacement.
I spent 2 days helping my mate with his router... Well to cut the story short he ended up taking it back to the shop.
Although a lot of PC experts might deny this. But yes 'System Restore' does help alot...its a life saver!!!
