Things to improve my forum?

I am not really sure how to ask, but can you please take a look at my forum and let me know what things can be done to improve my forum?

    www.smsbucket.com/forums

It is a general discussion forum wherein you can discuss on different topics.

Any suggestion for making a new category? or anything you think can improve my forum?

    Thanks

Your forum looks neat and well organised.

I would only change the footer, too much blank there, too much space between number of visitors (the label) and the number displayed, which, btw, don't need a bigger size than the label unless you want to focus the attention in that number.

Thank you Mystique for your comment.

I will work on the footer and try to make it look more pleasant.

Regarding the categories on the forum, do you think they are good or I need to add more categories?

These are the things I have done to promote my forum.

    1. Announced my forum on different webmaster forums where I have joined.

    2. Put the link on my orkut page (I don't use orkut very much)

    3. Sent email to Yahoo Groups (but mostly the owner of groups don't accept it)

    4. Sent email to individual member from Yahoo groups.

    5. Whenever I comment on any blog I am using my forum's link in there.

    6. Stumbled some of my forum pages.

    Anything else left?

Also, I want you to please take a look at my forum and see if I should add some more categories or it is just fine as it is?

    Thanks

I am going to tell you but you will have to join my forum :)

    Banner Ad Rotating Script:
You can get banner ad rotating script from this site http://www.htmlbasix.com/banner.shtml

    Menus
    It is in the overall_footer.html

Just download the overall_footer.html file and insert the banners code, and add the menus there and then upload it.

Note: Whenever you do some changes in header or footer files you will have to go to ACP > Purge The Cache, Otherwise the changes will not work.

Hope it will help you :)

    Now joining my forum?

Submit to as many free directories and Social Bookmarking sites as you can find.

Create some squidoo lenses about your niche and provide some links to your forum.

Find a sponsor and hold a contest. Maybe a referral contest, but those tend to get you temporary members and posts, but at least it will leave your forum looking bigger and more active.

If you have the money for it, hire some paid posters.

Do post exchanges with other forum owners.

    Yes, very nice suggestions.

Actually right now I am submitting the stories from my forum to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Delicious and the one I recently found is Hugg.com

I just hope it will bring some traffic.

I don't have much knowledge about squiddo lenses, but I will figure it out that how it works.

Very nice looking forum. It's very hard to get a new forum going...I know. I see you are using SE friendly URLs but not for Title and Description tags, so I was wondering if you're using an SEO mod. You may want to read up on forum seo and fix the meta tags and duplicate content. Just a suggestion.

Yes, they are different. I'm just saying you have this

<title>SmsBucket Forums - View topic - Story Behind Your Username?</title>

When it would be better to have this

    <title>Story Behind Your Username?</title>

You only get so much room in your title tag and google will truncate the rest. Also, you are not using the description tag <meta name="description" content="" />, but that's not as big of a deal as the title.
