This happened last year, and it's happened again... why does Google refuse to create a logo for Memorial Day?
i dont mean to sound anti-american, but so what? Google only did it as a fun thing every so often, why not target yahoo or myspace who never have done it? Pierce
in a probable effort to seem 'unbiased' they are doing the left leaning thing. they are an american company so they should do it if they're going to do st patty's day and whatever else but they don't want to offend their foreign anti american searchers. nice priorities.
they do fourth of july though so they probably don't want to do too many American holidays, which would make them seem biased
Did they at least do a Veteran's Day logo? I can't remember, but I too wish they would have done a memorial day logo.
Their complete list of logos is here: http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html They do a lot of "American" holidays like Halloween, and Independence Day. I think that we should show respect for those who have served our country, regardless of your politics. Since when is honoring veterans a "right-wing" thing? I agree with you 100% in that Google is a private company, and they can do whatever they like with their logos, of course I also have the right to complain about it.
wow, i never even noticed this. you are right. have you tried emailing google? or better yet, calling them?
Oh gawd, Halloween is NOT an "American" holiday! Google doesn't just do holidays, and they don't do all of them, in the same way that they don't do every famous person's birthday. It's fairly random. It's not always even something famous. I mean, c'mon, Lunar New Year? Edit: Heh! Google in 1998, before they could afford serious graphic artists: -Michael
i agree with you that it's not right wing to put the logo up but they do intentionally omit memorial day and it's NOT random, people. they ignore it every year!
it is unfortunate that Google fails to pay respect to Memorial day, but I'm not going to fret too much. it's just a silly logo meant for fun...I guess I dont think it's too big of a deal
Well, I've seen Canadian specific logos on google.ca, so I don't see what's wrong with some American-specific logos on google.com. That said, so what?
Uh, wouldn't this be considered a "country specfic" holiday? Martin Luther King Jr. Day - January 15, 2007
I think google are quite picky with what they do and don't do logos for, for example I don't think they do logos for the 11th november, which is roughly the UK equivalent, I don't think its anything personal... Also if it is a memorial of everyone who has ever died in the Nation's service, then it might be considered a bit topical because of those who have died reccently in somewhat controversial wars... I am not defending their decision just attempting to reason... Diarmuid
