I don't understand why some sites like Wikipedia and Puzzles.com don't implement Adsense even though they have heard of it and they're getting massive amount of traffic. Are they afraid of messing up their site with ads or are they so rich they don't need it anymore?

According to me the simplest and logical answer is they must be making more than that they have accumulated or expecting for adsense and don't wanna try new things, THey are happy and let them happy as we will face more compeition ;)

I am not sure about Puzzles.com, but Wikipedia is using a .org domain, which is supposed to be used for 'Free and Non profit sites'.

So that is why they don't use Google ads or any other form of revenue generation on the site.

Yes I know but could they just put atleast one ad for some extra income for themselves. It wouldn't hurt anyone.

Well Wikipedia could use Adsense to recover costs and give the profit to charity.

I read an interview on the founder of Wikipedia in Time magazine a while ago who stated that it was funded entirely on donations.

Is this general practice for most sites? I was just thinking of a new site idea but the domain i want only has .org available. Would this not be a good idea if was going to put adsense on the site?

I guess that you should consult with your domain registrar.

As far as getting approved for Adsense is concerned, here are a few examples of silent dot org domains already approved for adnsense:

    http://www.geekrant.org

    http://www.fan-sites.org

You have to cover the costs of your server & bandwidth, not everyone is bill gates or donald trump to run a site without donations or revenue forever. Of course, you can donate the extra revenue earned to another charitable organization.

    Wow!

We seem to be going from one extreme to the other.

The other day there was someone on this forum wanting to set up an organization sort of thing so that people who hate Adsense ads wil keep clicking on them so that Adsense goes bankrupt. He has now been banned I think which is very good.

And now you are practically saying that you want every site on the web to have atleast one Adsense ad on it. lol

If it was my site and it was making very good mony, then I would probably leave it be. But if it was my site and not making much money then I would have probably had one or two ads on it by now.

I see the red reps, please don't give me any, but I actually agree.

I'm also going to bring up the possible service to the site surfer as well. Just hear me out. Say you find something you're REALLY interested in via Wikipedia and want a few more resources to check out. Wouldn't adsense provide that? I may just be naive. Maybe it's possible that these sites offer all the resources anyone could ever need, but not in my experience.

I just think that a little advertising can actually help the advertiser, the publisher and the ad surfer all in one package. And, if they want to donate the proceeds, we have a fourth benefactor.

But, like someone said earlier, they're happy and there's no need to change something that's working.

    -boxer126

P.S. I understand it may not be ALL about the money, but my point was, it could actually help everyone involved. Which may have been the original point of the thread. Just hope all those reds didn't come from this honest question.
