It's true, Google IS broken! Or at least they have problems.

See http://www.google.com/codejam/ and read this at the bottom.

OK this might be in the context of the CodeJam contest but still.. Perhaps there is more to it and they're trying to laugh it off :) (We are not amused).

That doesn't say that they are broken...

All it says is that they need help because they are having problems to maintain such a complex index...

Sorry to be picky, but broken would mean.... Well, let's not start that one again shal we ;)

    Right

I guess I'm such a die-soft coder that I had never heard of the Jam before.

I fully realize G's public stuff has to be taken with a few grains of salt. Such as the moon datacentres, PigeonRank etc. makes it a fun company.

It was hard for me to believe that Google, with almost 2X the share of the SE market that Yahoo! has had $150mil less in advertising revenue than Yahoo! did over the 3rd quarter. Y! must be doing a great job with Overture & on-site ads, etc.

I think it would behoove GG to find some more revenue streams, or get ready to be clobbered by competition with far more ability to invest in search technology...

Google will acquire other companies with their stock soon, they can not have 95% of sales coming from advertising products long term.

My thoughts exactly. It's just not a healthy business model to rely on one source of income (being advertising).

I wonder what they'll come up with.

Why not? They can change methods of advertising.

That is not the way to build a strong business (95% of gross profits from one product).

Google will acquire software companies or other database information technology firms.

They may get involved with direct marketing or even interactive television as that is where the internet is heading.

If they cut on our Adsense earnings they will have a lot more revenue (or maybe not, as some advertisers could "run away" to other advertising methods).

I don't think it's bad if you are the market leader, today Google is so strong just because of its concentration.
