Hello everyone, I'm keeping an eye on genesis theme framework from a long time and hearing many good things about. Even some probloggers are using it. I'm currently using Thesis framework and i'm really happy with how it works. Actually i think thesis is much better then genesis. Though haven't use genesis but thinking to buy a license to test it. I would love to hear your thoughts on which theme is better genesis. Do any one have experience with genesis theme framework? Let's chat........
I am using Thesis theme, but familiar with Genesis, since my one of client uses Genesis corporate for her business site. In my opinion, Genesis is also great, its clean, but i prefer Thesis, for layout customisation, we can just click the option without editing the css. In Genesis, we have to edit the css code..as far as i know.
Thesis seems to be hands down the best from those that use it. However most of frameworks aren't really needed for most pages, plus its always best to learn as much about WP without having to rely on frameworks.
I actually like Justin Tadlock's Theme Hybrid framework. 'nuf said. Worked with Thesis and found it overloaded with stuff that I really did not need. But that is just me, Hybrid is pretty minimal and cleaner than the other two (from a starting point aspect).
I'm actually writing a post for my blog RIGHT NOW about 5 Free WordPress Themes that can do everything that StudioPress and Thesis do. It'll be posted very soon...by that I mean in a day or two. You can get everything these two offer for free via plugins and a small selection of themes already in the WP directory.
I would have to also agree with the crowd here...thesis is best. I have some experience with both and IMO thesis is more easily customized and slightly more blogger friendly. If you like it, why not just stick with it?
I just tried hybrid with the structure theme and it's not that good. Verry few functions. But it's better than most themes I have tested so far. It also feels good to have a theme that is going to be updated and kept fresh.
Hybrid and thematic are best theme frameworks when it comes to Free. So thanks for the advice Dodger.
Lol kimi, i don't thesis is easy, you can just change colors, background, sidebar colors but overall it will look same as default look. You have to play with custom.css in both genesis and thesis to get a good look. Anyways, I just purchased genesis theme license and will going to play with it.. !
@Everyone Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not going to change my theme any time soon. Thesis is still one of the best seo optimized and quality theme!! I just purchased a genesis theme license and will going to play with it.
I think Structure is a child-theme to Hybrid. I usually start with a blank slate, and pull routines out of children such as Options or News, just to get up and running quickly. I don't know what you mean by "very few functions", but Hybrid is only a framework to be built upon If you understand hooks and filters, then you can pencil-whip the heck out of it. Hook-for-hook it is virtually the same as Thesis. SEO-wise it is just as good as Thesis, and has post/page editing support for title, description, keywords, post series, and (now deprecated) thumbnail attachments. Hybrid does not have any fancy-smancy CSS editing in the backend, there is no need for custom style-sheets built upon a base stylesheet. Why would you want to over-write all of your CSS with new rules? Seems duplicitous to me. And he has rewritten all of the stock widgets for WordPress into smarter, highly configurable versions. If you have ever got used to using his widgets, you will never go back. Another thing, Justin released a "core version" of Hybrid which you can use to build without the need of a child-theme. I have not ventured there yet, but will explore that down the road.
