I have dual citizenship as I was born and grew up in the US

I'm not sure what would give you the impression though that someone that isn't from the US, wouldn't care who was president or what they were doing. The US economy affects all of Europe and just about every part of the world. Gas Prices in the US effect the cost of imported goods here, tourism (high plane fares mean less people), and many other things.

Having just gotten a car I'm having to pay for my own petrol, and my blood pressure rises every time I hear "petrol price increase" on the TV. It's about R5,60 a litre here, and with the cost of living, that's a major sum. If only things in the middle east would settle down.

One thing I absolutely *love* is that whenever the petrol prices go up, prices in the shops go up and they claim things like it costs more to deliver the goods (even though the delivery trucks use diesel), etc, but when the petrol prices go down the shops always seems to have a reason to keep the prices up (which smacks of mismanagement if hey can't handle all these sudden, mysterious costs they have to cover)

What I'm curious about is, is with the price of petrol increasing why don't we see more ads pushinh for hybrid cars or cars with alternate fuel sources (hydrogen cells, etc). I'm sure people would start snapping them up if it means saving money in the long run...

As for Bush, well, my view is that even if he's an idiot, at least you have a known quantity, unlike Kerry who's a flip-flop with his policies. IMHO, the only good president is a dead one because they're all corrupt, but hey we've got to live with them...

I've just stopped looking at prices when I feel up. Think last time it came to $44. As for Hybrid cars, I looked into them. The civic hybrid didn't bet the civic by enough to cover the extra money you pay for it. It would take alot of driving to ever cover the extra costs. If the Hybrids came down in price I would buy one.

As I only have a 19liter / 5 gallon tank I don't really notice small fluctuations. I also get around 50 mpg when I drive nice so that helps too.

I was going to sell my ford focus and buy a jeep liberty. Then the fuel prices started climbing and I'm going to keep my focus. As much as I'd like a jeep, I feel better knowing that I'm not spending my life savings at the fuel pump.

Oh yea, and I've got another focus for sale is anyone's interested, only 11k miles....

On CNN they had part of the federal investigation into price gouging and they said that in the last year crude oil prices have risen 60%, but gas prices have risen by 120%.

Also, they mentioned that 25% of gas stations in New Jersey were price gouging. The clip I say didn't mentioned who exactly was doing the reporting of the gas stations in NJ.

Price gouging? That is one phrase that drives me ballistic! Its called a free market, don't want to pay? dont buy! Why is it price gouging when a gas station owner marks up his feul by 50% but it isn't when you buy a bra at Victoria's Secret for 1000% markup. The average bra at VS is purchased from distributors for $2.00 and resold for $29.95. Or how about bottled water? C'mon.

But the thing is if you don’t want to buy a bra at Victoria’s Secret for $30 you can go to Wal-mart and buy one for $4. Same with bottled water. You can’t do that with gas though.

As far as complaining about gas I’m not b*tching about prices. I drive a larger vehicle mainly for comfort. I’m 6’6” and for me to drive a smaller car I have to do a modified downward facing dog-blossoming flower yoga hybrid thing. I’m used to paying more for things though, like clothing.

The thing I have a problem with is gas companies saying the higher prices are strictly from increased crude oil prices. If they came out and said gas prices are higher, because people will pay more for it then I wouldn’t really care or if they said nothing at all. They don’t need to lie and make excuses.

But I though that was a good position for you??

For some reason they had to tear down some refineries and now they blame the cost increase on refinery shortages - or not being able to produce enough.

Petrol price in Australia is around AUD$1.40 per litre. This equates to US$6.50 per gallon. I reckon this will impact on all discretionary spending, and that means on-line ordering as well.

Last I heard they HAVE come out and said why prices are higher, we don't have any friggen refineries because the lefties out there won't allow one to be build, same with electrical and nat gas prices this winter, we sit on top of trillions of cubic feet of nat gas and those idiots like nancy pelosi wont let us get it. Same with oil and nuclear power. Every time you fill up, thank those tree hugging hippies called democrats. (did I mention I hate hippies?)
