    "Iraq's vice-president is highlighting the plight of women prisoners in Iraq. Many are detained for years without charge. Some have been sentenced to death without being questioned."
    ~~

    How will the neo-cons try to twist this reality?

    • What is your primary source of 'news'?
    • Fox??
    • or
    • What??

    Do you ever try any variety even if you don't trust the source?

    • Do you also try to claim 1000's of innocent Iraqi's have not been killed?

    For the record, if you even know:
    • What is the 'officially accepted' estimate of the Iraqi death count? (published in the American media)
    • Are you willing to post a link, or just going to keep on with your Neo-con 'joy', spin, half-truths, and murderous lies?
    • Are you (also) aware your basic training included several forms of brainwashing? ;)
    • How do you feel about someone else having permanently changed your capacity for rational thought?
    • What is your definition of 'freedom'?

    gemini, why deflect by asking someone's news sources. I post news sources from many, many different sources around the world, all the time. I'd question your sources, but all you offer is silly opinions.

    Raise the bar.

    You asked me to raise the bar, and I'll do that for you, right now:

    The pictures don't lie. Grandmothers crying in prisons, without trial, possibly on death row. And then people wonder why one of the husbands, sons or fathers of these women might do something extreme against the state or the occupation forces. Wouldn't you in the same scenario?

    Because you made a strawman argument and an ad hominem attack based on it being from Al Jazeera.

    @gworld, a democracy is merely the tyranny of the majority on the minority. The US is a Constitutional Republic, and the word democracy is nowhere to be found in the Constitution. Everyone is meant to have equal basic rights and privileges, regardless of which way the winds of public opinion blow.

    Also, what's the upside?
    Who gains anything my keeping those women in prison?

    Sad how Reagan stared down 40,000 Russian nukes, and Bush is scared of a bunch of crying women.

    Sure doesn't seem like the best way to promote stability, freedom, or 'democracy'.

    On a positive note, if they are being detained, at least Blackwater can't shoot at them! :)

    Nope, when it comes to news, questioning the source is not automatically a strawman. Al Jazeera has been proven time and time again to be horribly slanted and infested with propoganda.

    But go on, whine. I can refer you to past wars where these type of women near prisons would not be so abundant...because most cities were completely flattened by carpet bombing. Not the case in this war though...nah we're just letting them slowly kill themselves. :rolleyes: whichever the strategy it all seems to have the same result...

    Worse than Fox 'News' Network? ;)
    ~~~~~~~~
    Even if the video is 100% fake:
    • Average Iraqi civilians are dirt poor
    • Our occupation is breading new hatred and more killing
    • True patriots oppose mass-murder.
    • It's time to support the troops by bringing them all home.
    And this is different from the US media how?
    Here is the funny thing about propaganda. When you show footage or photos (such as Abu Grahib) and there are corroborating 3rd party witnesses, you're getting closer to the truth. Our government doesn't even trust the Judicial Branch, Senate or House with the truth, do you really think we're getting it from Hannity and Colmes?
    I watch Democracy Now, Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera English, the BBC, the CBC, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, and CSPAN daily. I also listen to recorded talk radio in the evenings and pour through newspapers and website articles before I go to sleep.
    Our media doesn't always lie to us, but they certainly don't show us many of the ugly truths beneath the surface.
    People in Iraq have been suffering since Saddam's invasion, and between the Sanctions and War, they must be near to 2 million deaths, and certainly more than 2 million refugees. This is an atrocity the international community has committed against Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9-11, had no WMDs, and isn't ready for a 3 state solution or democracy. It's primary mistake was allowing a dictator to rule them (one we endorsed and supported), and his failed invasion of Kuwait, which history is quick to cover up, had to do with Kuwait infringing on Iraq's oil reserves with slant drilling.
    Are terrorists evil and should they be stopped? Yes, absolutely.
    But is it worth locking up women and children, driving people to unfriendly nations as refugees to do so? Where is the moral high ground in this? And where is the Return on Successâ„¢ when we trade thousands of lives without catching the fleeting enemy?
    Al Queda @ the time of 9/11 was estimated at 600 strong worldwide. We've lost 5,000 (?) troops in Iraq and Afghanistan already. Not to mention the British troop losses, the wounded, and many upon many thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis.
    Watch the news from the region. Listen to moderate Israelis, civilians Iraqis, and embedded reporters. There is more than one side to this situation, and hearing only the closest sounds isn't listening in stereo.
    For crissakes, New Orleans is still a mess and we're building a $1 billion embassy in Iraq, bigger than the Vatican. What will it take for people to wake up!?
    If you think Fox is the absolute worst, then why do they continue to have higher ratings over every other network when it comes to the news (and I am not referring to their opinion pieces such as O'Reilly, Hannity and Colmes, etc)????
    If Ron Paul can generate almost as much money as John McCain, and with smaller average donations, how can he poll 10+% lower?
    I assign zero value to ratings. A lot of people watch their TV without commercials, on YouTube. A lot of people use FTA satellite.
    Popularity != Quality (see Spears, Brittney; Reeves, Keanu; McDonald, Ronald)
    So McCain has a better shot at being president than Paul? That's a fair observation.
    Paul is still sitting at 4% though that might increase to 5% soon with all the neo-nazi support he's getting.
    hmm well let's see... moral high ground...
    The option is to do nothing and allow a dictatorship as someone said responsible for millions of deaths so far to go on. Or we could try to change a country so we have one less to worry about.
    Well not doing anything definitely is not the moral high ground. You cannot argue with that.
    Invading and attempting democracy like we have if successful is the moral high ground. We haven't been successful yet so we do not have the moral high ground because things could turn out worse, it's true. But the large percentage of the world that supports our previous policies before the invasion refuses to even approach the concept of morality. If that percentage of the world did, they would support and accomplish the goals of freedom. They do not have the will to stand up for humanity though it seems.
