Hecklers shout down Lieberman at a debate...let's check the reactions from the debate participants:

    the democrat (lamont) does nothing.
the democrat (lieberman) whines about it.
    the moderator (stephanapolous) does nothing.
the republican (whatever his name is) stands up and tells them to shut up.

There's a lesson there, somewhere, I'm not sure what it is though. Someone else can help me out ;)

I think in this case of all those people, I believe the republican reaction was the most honorable. I don't like it when people are picked on, and to stand up for someone in a weaker position is something you have to admire. But I don't know if there is a big lesson or not. If you want to relate it to a life lesson let us say that the moderators are the UN. The people that whine about it disagree with what is going on but they are not really in a position of power to change things. The people that do nothing are all the people that are either apethetic or just trying to scrape out a living and are not really caring about the news or voting. THEN...you have the Republicans:) They always have a strong opinion and don't mind letting everyone know about it. They are authoritarians and have good intentions...many times they are right, but if they were wrong they would never admit it:)

Some few years ago Lieberman was the first Democrat in public office to publicly renounce Clinton for fooling with Monica Lewinsky.

While it was considered an act of political courage...a Democrat reprimanding the pres...it was widely seen as a totally appropriate action.

It probably was the act that got him nominated by Gore to be his vice presidential running mate.

Standing up to a moron is good!

Too bad lieberman neutered himself during that campaign or I might have more respect for him.

Unfortunately, this is what out country has become. Rather than have an intellectual discourse, it's all about drowning out whatever someone has to say if it's not your own viewpoint.

It starts on TV from shows like Hannity & That Other Guy. We see it time and time again. People are just mimicking what they see on TV from "professionals."

Debate shows are death. No solutions, just carping back and forth. I fail to see the point in either. Each side is intractible; and it just ends up as bitch fest. They may as well play hungry hungry hippos for 60 minutes. We'd learn about as much.

You might be on to something there. I would much rather tune into Fox for a show called The Hungry Hippos Factor.

The lesson is, Democrats don't even like or agree with their own. And they wonder why they cannot win elections.

What about the heckler at the Barbara Streisand show.

She did a skit with a Bush look alike. Somebody started heckling her. She yelled "Shut the f*ck up".

Actually I didn't see it. But my gut woulda said...."don't do the skit at all"

Actually, I say, kudos to Schlesinger. A debate is a place for people to hear the folks on stage speak. If the heckler wants an audience, I'd invite him to stand outside on Sproul Plaza (my former venue), and speak his mind. By his actions, he was intruding on the right of others to hear Lieberman and the other speak. So, fuck off.

Gee whiz Lorien, we must have watched two different video clips. I didn't see it the way you described it at all. Not even close. But those words of your's are sensational!

I watched it as well. Not exactly as Lorien described, but close.

Stephanopoulus played the role of moderator, which was his job, asking for the heckler to cease and allow Lieberman to speak. He then asked the heckler to be escorted out, and it isn't clear anything of the sort took place, as the heckler continued.

Lieberman looked like he was going to cry. Why he didn't just tell the asshole to shut the fuck up is beyond me. Even on a purely political level, it would have won him major points. As it was, he just became crestfallen, and wandered back and forth on the stage, looking abject.

    Lamont was silent.

Schlesinger stood up and told the guy off. Whatever his motivation - genuine and honorable, or political - it was a bold stand, and won him major points, if the cheers and applause are any indication.

She got owned on that one. She's been a freaky deeky moonbat for years. Why on earth actors, comedians and singers cannot do what they do well is beyond me. It completely turns me off when they resort to crap like this. I'm not fond of people with an agenda, especially when it is a negative agenda. Look what happened to the Dixie Dikes.. Their career ended in an instant.

They do this because they know there fans will do anything. It is the jim jones syndrome, where they don't question what they are hearing because they worship the person for their talent. I could care less if I was in a room of 'stars' I would rather be in a room full of average people than big-headed stars.

    thanks Captain Obvious!

he votes with democrats 90% of the time. He just happens to understand the concept of defending the country. Something the nutroots could stand to learn about.
