maybe if you gave us a link to the site the good folks here at the forum could take a look and give you some real feedback. Without that, I can only give you generic thoughts. 1) on the whole banners do not convert as well as text. 2) you need to target your visitors to what it is your selling. 3) some products, like big ticket items, may have a few lookers just out of curiosity, but buyers are few and far between
Thanks for your reply, we created a polling technology to place relevant ads underneath the poll results. As for the news websites it is untargeted banner placement so it looks like i need to get creative.
I have very little success with Banner ads. I run products sites. People looking to buy an item find them through the long tail keywords I use for the title of that page. To make this simple I use a WordPress blog. Each blog post is tagged, pinged, and social bookmarked. The longer the keyword term a person type into a search engine the more likely they are to making a buying decision. I want my traffic to be HOT to buy. SO my audience is coming to BUY or they do not come at all. Having a site with a lot of visitor that are visiting for any number of reasons does not equate to conversations even if the click a lot. I do not look for volume of traffic, I look for very specific target traffic that will convert. My first online business was an online retail shipper that did over 2,000,000 in sales, but I could not make any money. I converted that into an affiliate business and now I do well. But keep in mind I have been developing this since 2002. Relevant ads are great, but unless the sites visitor is coming to make a purchase, you may get a lot of clicks but very few conversation. In this case Adsense would be a better monetization plan. AT least you get paid something for the click Good luck
