Agreed. While accepting links we can take number of criteria's whereas any bot or script is limited by a few.

Sounds like you have a free directory. Manual reviews are the only way to go - be strict in what you accept. If you're overwhelmed by the volume of submitters because it is free then start charging for the review. Even a small review fee will weed out most of the spam submissions that would take you hours to manually.

Keep your spam submissions under control and stick to manual editing of directory.

As the rest are saying its the way, or...

Offer free with no follow, i guarantee it puts lots off.
As swedal points out, charge a small fee, maybe $1 or something.

Or just go nuts :) and mass approve everything, lol, will create an almighty infested mess though, so dont do that ;)

look I dont know what you guys think but you can still manually review the submissions and then mass accept without your directory suffering right?

I mean come on there has got to be a easier way then waiting for the page to load and review and then accept one by one .

It would be easier if you could review by 10-20 pages ,get rid of the ones you dont want and then mass accept all valid links right?

If you want to have less submissions than place a tax for each link...

you really think you can review a website by just looking at a submitted description?
an easier way than "waiting for the page to load"
    lol thats a classic

omg you people try reading before you post,
I view 10-20 pages and review, but I am tired of accepting one then waiting and accepting another then waiting.

how about some mods in the admin area so you can select the ones to mass delete or accept?

I guess i will have to make it myself or find someone that can understand what is needed here ,as it seems none of you hit the topic posted here, just a bunch of nah Sayers

for one I read your post you did not ask if there was a mod out there or anything but I do know there are mods not to except certain pagerank or certain words as far as mass approval or delete why would you want to do that and as far as waiting and accepting then waiting again thats the life of a directory owner oh and just to let you know on the
paid version of some directory scripts you can review a bunch of sites then click and approve or delete

There's no short cut to reviewing submissions, it takes time and patience. If you're running a free directory you can see just by the title and description that 95% of your submissions are crap and delete them without looking at the site.

The advantage of charging a review fee is that it stops a lot of the spammy submissions and you feel better about taking time to do a thorough review as your time has been paid for.

Congratulations, you just found out that making a directory involves work. Now you have to decide if you want to create a free-for-all/little value directory where you accept everything, systematically go through the listings by reviewing and visiting each submission or opt to sell or discontinue the site.

If you were a friend of mine, rather than a stranger on a forum, I would suggest you review the reasons why you started the site and seriously consider selling or discontinuing the site.

Thanks for the usefull information thats what I needed to know.So the newer versions, the paid versions have this ability to mass accept/delete links.Or at least some of them do,any idea which ones?

progress is derived from a desire to make things easier and more productive!

Don't use auto software. You just have to get your head down and manually edit them! It's hard work, but thats the way running a directory should be - you get the rewards for your hard work!

just like redneck jokes they get lame especially after people repeat them in other words.

To be honest same things could be said about a lot of different things, like example,

If you cant understand what is being asked you should not try to respond to the posts.

and remember what opinions are like that everyone has!that doesnt mean you should run around showing it!
