Thanks joeychgo. It will be interesting to see what google comes up with. btw, this will be great shock for paid directory owners. Thier efforts are now pointless. ( If PR is dead )
As a nube, I'd say one can only hope PR is dead - then perhaps I'll be feel more comfortable about a policy to Link with worthwhile sites that add value and relevancy to my visitors, and vice-versa; instead of squirming with self-doubt about whether I should really be begging for high PR links from total dross sites. smidsrt re: the most insightful comment of this Thread!
back on topic - here is one reason I think we're getting Trust Rank http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/050425-131316
Is this the end of PR? I cant see the PR of all other site.... Is this another strategy or google will replace PR algo?
Google's strategy is: Release a brand new toolbar with neat little features and then take the biggest feature out of it completely and turn the SEO world on its ear. They're succeeding...
Well, shouldn't you be adding value for your users anyway (whatever the system)? It's not as if Google is going to forget about PageRank - they just might stop telling people what their PageRank is, but Google will always implement algorithms that rank the relevancy of websites. Just because you don't know what your PR is, doesn't mean it is no longer important. The goal of having high quality links to your site isn't going to change, it's just that the only way you will be able to measure your success in the future is by counting visitors (instead of just checking your PR). Everyone will be flying in the dark - but, at the end of the day, if Google likes you, you will get visitors and that's what really counts. Having said that, I think that it would be unwise for Google to stop telling people their PageRank. Why? Because PR is like a game. It keeps people interested in Google and their products, and it keeps webmasters continually on their toes. As soon as Google changes their game plan just about every webmaster takes instant interest. Not only that, but PR is actually very useful. I use it all the time when I am assessing a new website. It helps me gauge roughly how important a page is. That is something I value a lot. But, having said all of that, I don't think PR has gone forever. I am sure that this is just a temporary outage and that we will see PR scores back again soon. Let's hope!
Well, Well. I was just minding my own business, was looking up some PR's of a site that I am not trying to PR by any means and noticed it was 0. Didn't surprise me, so I looked up some other sites, 0. Then I looked up my PR6 site, 0. WHAT? Looked up my competition PR8 site, 0. Hmmmmmmm.... Well, I went and downloaded a google toolbar for Firefox to see if that would show any information. I installed it, not PR information to be found. Looked through the settings, nothing at all. No mention of it, no sign of it. Folks... I think it's gone. Other than "IM BETTER THAN YOU"... what are we loosing from no PR? Can we expect our adsense to go down? If we have a quality site that has been around for 5 years that people fine useful... can we expect to do BETTER than before? Im late into this PR game and so Im playing catch up. So, all I have learned in the last few months, might not be of an RANK at all?
If they change the algo or take out PR completely, we'll all see a HUGE change in the SERP positioning of EVERY site.
I guess I will be the first to start it... In the absence of Google PR... What's your AR? (Alexa Ranking) I'm 32,412.
I would think that it would be quite the opposite. However, it will be more difficult to spot good deals. I think a lot of inexperienced users will just go back to the assumption that any link is a good link.... THAT's not necessarily a good thing, but that's what I predict will happen. However, as I've said earlier, I doubt that published PR is dead....
Hmmm... I just read through 18 pages of this. Seems like a whole lot of jumping to conclusions going on here. I think if you really want to get a handle on what's happening, split off all posts except noppid's into quarantine somewhere and you'll be left with the meat. I think there's about as much chance of Google dropping PR entirely as there is of DMOZ finally getting it right. Maybe Google has just shut down PR queries while it does something else... who knows? There have been odd changes across the datacenters for the past few days. Whatever Google is doing hasn't been completed yet. This is one more manifestation of that.
Well - I have said the same thing throughout - Google PageRank is too good of a marketing tool that has most of us running to Google constantly to check it. But I do believe PR as we know it is gone and going to be replaced. But It will be something that is a measure of a site. Might just be a Trust / Dont Trust, Might be a ranking scale, who knows. But something will be there.
