That is true, most of the people die to have a site with pr6 - pr 8? they pay huge money for such site? and links? text links for such site's are in high demand? SERP is the main thing I agree
SERP = Search Engine Result Performance! How often your site is shown on the search results, on selected Keywords!
No, people pay big money for sites that make good revenue. If you are actually buying a PR7+ you are probably far more concerned with traffic, revenue, mailing lists, serps, potential, demographics rather than PR. PR is a shortcut. I have a PR7 tends to mean - "I have a site that I have been promoting for a while, it does well and I have good rankings etc" - not always true either.
my pr toolbar is grey for all websites, even google.com and msn.com. First I thought it's a toolbar problem, but now I see it's a common problem. I think google is updating pr, or probably updating how pr is calculated, i'm not sure
why is everyone moaning about pr? dont people judge new sites based on yahoo or other search engine info? does everyone just judge on google data that for 1: does not show all BL anyway and 2: does not update pr often enough to be reliable.
1) PR defines how many times you are hit by Googlebot 2) PR shows you are/can be a autorithy site, thus helping getting more links 3) PR is an important factor for Coop or Link Vault. Also, I don't see any anormal activies from Googlebot, so I guess whatever they are doing, they are doing it all internally.
Looking at your sig, I'd say PR has some significance to you, you're promoting a site as being a PR 5 directory, when in fact it is now showing grey. PR is really nothing more than a measuring guage for webmasters, I doubt it has any real meaning to the average Joe that is surfing the web.
PR isn't gone. At most, toolbar PR is gone. The reason SERPs haven't changed is because internally, everything is probably more or less the same. The people who are saying "PR IS GONE OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG" obviously don't realize the differences between internal PR and toolbar PR. Toolbar PR is an indicator of link establishment. Internal PR is what affects the rankings. I've seen your argument before. Unfortunately, even those who don't care about PR, still need to be into the trends. I personally couldn't care less about toolbar PR. Sure, I have the PR checker installed for Firefox, and yes, I do look at it as an indicator of link establishment (not alone though, there ARE other factors), but really... if it was my choice, I wouldn't go around "LOOK, PR5 DIRECTORY!". Unfortunately, if I had a PR5 directory, I would HAVE to promote it like that, due to the number of people who would only listen to the PR5 part.
someonewhois already answered with a great reply. It's all about marketing. When you write PR 5, many think it has a good value, and you get more submissions.
SERP = Search Engine Results Page. It is the page that Google returns for the search on any keyword. Everyone would like to have their page displayed on the first page of the SERPs, or in the "top ten" as is commonly said.
I always thought it was Search Engine Result Position. If I rank #53, I would say my SERP was #53, not #6 (being on page 6).
You've got it! You've got it! Wow! you are the first person on this thread that really seems to understand how bad the data is and how ludicrous it is to make any decisions based on it.
I will miss the Toolbar PR simply because it is a quick way for me to see if Google has spidered a newly created page on my site or not.
I think you say your SERP placement or ranking is #53. I don't like to use the term "ranking" because everyone tends to confuse it with Page Rank. But I guess it doesn't matter. Someone who answered the question earlier said it stood for and I was really only trying to correct that answer. The problem with saying you are on page 6 is that it is possible to change the number of results listed on any give page of results. The default is ten, but you can list up to a 100 on a single page. So in that case even at #53 you would still be on the first page of the SERPs.
No it is not! The way to see if Google has spidered your page is to check the cache. PR isn't updated for months at a time. and your page would normally be spidered within a few days of being published, assuming you have a backlink to it from any reasonably popular website or page.
