There doesn't seem to be any good hosts around!

    Hi All,

Just recently I had to remove my account because my host doesn't allow reference to foreign exchange in web site owners content.

So I moved my sites over to Godaddy just to keep them live while I do some research. I was offered some space by someone personally, and thankyou to them, but I still wanted to look around first, I may still take him up on his offer.

I just want to say, right here and now, that pretty much all shared hosting plans, from all hosts suck! If it's not one thing it's another.

I have spent the last 48 hours searching, reviewing, comparing all the hosts that have been mentioned on sites, forums, and so on. Every single one that is in the top ten on some comparison site has glowing reviews, and yet all I have to do is type in 'xxxxx review' into Google and within 3 results I will see complaints. NOT ONE HOST HAS BEEN SPARED A BAD REVIEW.

Ok, so in general, the biggest comlaints have been lack of support, and sites crashing or going offline, but there are many others.

Just yesterday I was nearly sucked into a host that replied to my email, and answered yes that they had everything I required and more, only to find when doing a search that they are embroiled in a scam. What's worse is the person has a western name but writes like a foreigner, yet they say they are in the US. When I called I got an Indian answering.

Yes, yes, yes I've heard it many times before, you get what you pay for, so now I have a new problem. I now have to enter the dedicated server market, which I have absolutley no knowledge about. What I am supposed to do? Do I go through all the comparison sites, check out all the top ten dedicated hosts, only to find all of them will have bad reviews. As they will. I will have to read their TOS to make sure it's ok to FART. I will have to email them to make sure they have what I need and allow me to do what I need. I then have to search for reviews, I then have to......take a break!

Why is it that a simple web business onwer like me, who has two sites. One who sells little wildlife figurines using Paypal, I don't even use a damn shopping cart, and another site that is an information site for people who trade the markets (as I am a trader myself) is getting this fu$%^ing runaround.

All I want is to be able to have
multimedia on my site -audio, video, downloadable stuff
RSS feeds and via third parties
    Cron tasks
    Cpanel with Fantastico
    MySQL
Talk about letigitamte information such as Forex (what a load of wank calling that a breach - My trading of the forex markets is what feeds my kids!!!)
    SSI inlcudes
    Allow php on html pages
Free set up and moving over of my sites
    Multiple domains
    Email accounts for each domain
An understanding that I am not an expert in this field and so some of this stuff may sound elementary to some.
An honest reply from someone who is honest and uses their real name, and if I was to call them in the US, I would get an american answering the phone

I would also like to have someone say with all honesty that they have never had complaints about the customer service, or downtime. I dare you!

What can't someone set up an honest hosting company that sticks by their service? Hello

    I feel you!!
    DONT USE HOSTGATOR.

I have spent the last day looking as well and i like hostgator but after they call and tell me after 2 years to get off there server since I emaile them too much since they cant handle the basic support requests.

I just singed up for westnic. I have no idea who they are but I went thru my list of cj affiliates and they seemed the best without a scam for shared.

I am going to put my sites on 2 diff hosts to make sure there up.

If you find a co let me know and if i have affiliate link we can split the money.

what about WebberCo on the forum here? http://www.webberco.com/dp_web_hosting.php Seems to be a reasonable guy, and lots of people like him. I'm thinking about opening up an account.

I also have shared accounts at:
    - bluehost... they've been great I really like them
-globat... they suck, I got suckered into signing up and wish I never would have
-Godaddy... had their shared for years, loved it, but yes kinda slow
-godaddy, I now have a VPS with them which runs my 'day job' ecommerce shops, i've been happy with it.

Is that still a valid link? I can't seem to find a link from the homepage to the one you've specified.

    Those prices are cheap!

it's a special page for Digital Point users, to signup you have to provide your DP username. his thread is down further in the list "benefit from our goof". I've decided to buy a reseller plan from him, and he said if I decide i need more space I can just pay the difference for a new plan.

I know exactly what you are going thru - I went thru the same things a couple of years ago.

Started out with shared hosting, then reseller plan, VPS and moved to dedicated. Yes, I do offer hosting, but then again, I don't actively advertise the fact either. I am up front and honest with anyone who I decide to host and tell them that yes, I do have outages. I also tell everyone that I run my own sites on the same servers that you are on and any outage hurts me quite a bit.

The reason I finally went onto a dedicated server was that I was sick of not being in control of my hosting and always having to rely on someone else. In all honesty, everyone WILL have outages, but it is really about how a host deals with problems that is important.

Not everyone can afford to go dedicated, and not everyone who does knows how to manage their servers and have to rely on a 3rd party to do their admin. What you need to do is to find someone whom you trust and who understands your expectations. Your needs are fairly modest and you should be able to find someone who you trust to host your sites with the minimal of fuss.

Part of the reason you have problems is that there are a heck of a lot of "kiddie hosts" who promise the world, have a reseller plan and cannot offer support because they are in class! It is these sort of hosts who give the honest, hard working hosts a bad name.

Good luck in your search for a host who is suitable for your needs.

Well it's obvious I am not alone, however this post has rewarded me two fold.

First it enabled me to vent some anger, a much needed exercise before a blood vessel was going to rupture.

Second, I was contacted by someone who can now help me.

I have certainly learnt a lot from this process, but it reinforces the notion and belief that a lot of people are simply guided by money and nothing else.

My advice to you people is to understand that what you focus on is what you get. It's called the law of attraction. If your major concern in life is to try and make as much money as possible without giving value to this world, then you are and always will be a slave to money. It is laughing at you.

This sort of behaviour always has and always will have only short term benefits with long term pain.

If you're a hosting company and can not assure 100% satisfaction for your customers, get out of the kindergarten and grow up. Either decrease your customer base or find another business where you can assure 100% satisfaction.

so true, I've got shared accounts all over the place because I'm endlessly looking for that perfect combination of being able to host all of my sites, uptime juggling, and of course price... It's an endless battle.

I was very happy with GoDaddy Shared for a long time, and I still have a VPS with them that works without a hitch most of the time (I've got about 99.5 uptime right now which isn't too bad).

I also have a shared globat account (never again, I claim temporary insanity on that signup). I'm very happy with bluehost as a shared company right now, I'm maxed out on the included add-on domains and I feel I'm getting my money's worth.

I also have a dedi box that will probably need a sister pretty soon and I bought a reseller account from someone on the forum here.
