    multiple solutions for same situation:

basically you have to include all new files
with traditional sitemaps you either have to update your sitemap yourself or you are lucky and use some script or CMS that does this work for you automatically.

in addition of course you can have multiple sitemaps for your site
example one for your forums, one for your photo gallery, another one for your flat files
    all updated automatically OR manually

another method is to announce NEW pages in RSS feeds
and submit those RSS feeds to ALL SE in your

    sitemapindex.xml
    -file

sitemapindex.xml also is the file to have ALL your sitemaps (PLUS RSS feeds ) listed instead of submitting those files directly to each individual SE.

all major SE recognize the sitemapindex.xml. that saves work and time.
that's the option I use since more than a year instead of old fashioned submission of RSS and sitemaps to major SE. ( rss feeds still need to be submitted to rss directories !! )
